Absolutely hilarious that Kentucky had a chance to fire Mark Stoops last year in a tame coaching carousel where they could have got their #1 Guy, possibly even UK alum John Sumrall, and instead they fire Stoops the same day that 6 other SEC coaching vacancies were filled and are starting their search after all the best candidates are off the board.

And only a day after John sumrall is hired elsewhere haha

It's always really cool to hear actual Black folks talk about Rodney Downey Jr. doing this role. People will be like, 'That's Bl*ckface' and they are like, no no no. It's making fun of Bl*ckface. This is good. It's a character.

My final take from the season finale upon reflection:

1) Give Inge another season. I gave him a hard time yesterday, but the talent in the LB room is getting better. Let’s see what that unit look like with another year of development and go from there.

2) Revise the offense to not lean so heavily on just counting the number of guys in the box. Vandy exposed the flaw in that ideology. More teams will take the same approach going forward. We grew schematically from 2024 to this season. That growth has to continue.

3) Move on from Tim Banks as soon as our commitments become signees. I’m on the fence with Martinez, but Banks cannot be retained under any circumstance. The number of times he called plays that took guys out of position to make a play this season was unacceptable. Change is necessary. If Heupel won’t do it, DW must do it for him.

4) Allocate more money to grabbing some studs in the portal and less money to retaining experienced guys who aren’t difference makers. If a guy like Farooq or Telander asks for more NIL money (just using them as an example, no inside info at all), let them walk. They aren’t bad players, but are they guys who can help you get back to the playoff? I don’t see them as that caliber of player. Divert those funds to getting studs who can get you to the playoff.

5) Get the QB position set for 2026. That starts with deciding if you want Joey Aguilar for another season and, if so, what are you willing to pay him? Also have to gauge the likelihood of him actually getting another season. If you’re moving on from him and/or feel that he isn’t likely to get another season, go ahead and have that conversation with him and decide if you’re going to ride with GMac & Faizon and just bring in a depth piece or if you want a proven guy from the portal. I don’t claim to know the right answer to this one, but I do know you can’t have average quarterback play and have a successful 2026 season. Heupel has to get this one right.

Most people believe Trinidad Chambliss, Keywan Lacy etc will follow Kiffin to LSU. Wouldn’t those guys have to get a waiver though to transfer and play at LSU next year?

No. My guess is they finish the season at OM, because why leave when you're making the playoffs? Then, they can enter the portal and transfer to LSU if they want. No waiver required.

Why?

Transfer Portal opens when a head coaching change happens. I don’t think the SEC to SEC team rule applies with coaching changes.

Plus, there never was a limitation on SEC to SEC in the portal at the end/after the season. That limitation was only for the spring portal. And as far as I'm aware, they've killed the spring football portal.

Actually believe the defense will improve next season, DL should improve this off-season and Gibson should be back at CB. Redmond will only get better next season. Go find a stud safety in portal and pay the guy ...

Cannot, absolutely cannot wait or waste time in getting into the porthole. If they don't, if they piddle around, and don't take action...it will be a long year. Go heavy.

Farooq is raw, but his play this year has not been bad. If he continues to develop over the offseason, he'll be fine at one safety. Need another stud safety to play alongside him. Agree we need a star. We also need a stud CB. Redmond should improve with the experience and be a starter on one side. Can't count on Gibson coming back 100%. Hope that he does, but you pick up another stud CB as insurance. We also need depth.

Coordinators should not be in boxes. Get your ass down on the field and coach your players like you’re actually there. Otherwise might as well just be an analyst with playcalling duties.

Which goes back to my point on Willie Martinez. People are praising him for the corners but who do you guys think recruit the safeties primarily? Who do you think are on the sidelines coaching up the safeties primarily during the games with Banks in the box?
