For all of you posters calling for Heupel to be fired, Banks, etc, etc, etc and placing blame on even our AD.............JEEZ, take a chill pill. Look back in your VFL mirror and memories and think about not so long ago, how this football program was just a few years ago. This program was in shambles, and we were lucky enough to get a coach, a competitor, a true down to earth person in the name of Josh Heupel. All you children are just looking at what most children look at........the shiny object in the room, the "what did you do for me lately? mindset, . Yes, you are children, and you will get mad when you read that most people here realize you are children. Put your collective childish selves in Heupel's shoes and ask yourselves what you would do when you lose your NO 1 QB that you were counting on for this season in SPRING PRACTICE!!!! When you so-called NO 1 Defensive Back/ Safety, decides he wants to become a child too, and not do the work it takes to compete for the season coming up.

Poor babies, how about you get your collective selves together and decide to make a decision to EITHER put you VFL fandom back into your mind, OR decide you want to cry about the season, and criticize everyone that didn't make you feed your childish egos. Take a look in your mirror and ask yourself if you're gonna cry or move forward and support a coach that has put his whole being into the UT football program. If you don't feel like he has and brought TENNESSEE out of its years of funk, then you should move on and go support another team, Because most UT fans don't want to hear your B*tching and crying!!

For those of you who want to replace Heupel.......please tell me, at this point in time, and in this changing landscape of NIL, transfer portal, $Hundreds of Millions of Dollars in the coaching carousel that are in full swing...............who are you going to get? Please tell me, Please!!!!! AND.....since you children know everything about UT football, you know how much we are still paying for coaches we have fired before Heupel. And you want to add to that? I am sure most of you that are calling for Heupel's head are great business people, or are CEOs of corporations that make these decisions. Because if you are not, most people on this site are laughing at you.

You children should count your blessing that Heupel isn't leaving.....YET. Keep wishing for what you are asking for.....you really really really might regret it!!!

Well I can understand the Kentucky boards dogging on Stoops and there are always drama queens envious of the "excitement" of a coaching search. Maybe Banks will go to Virginia Tech and that replacement hire can whet the desire for drama and armchair analysis.

Oh My! It is Year 5 and the Vols did not make the playoffs and lost to the best Vandy team in history. Try to live through it and watch basketball tomorrow night. I have a buddy who is extreme on the agony of losing to Vandy but when asked who he would prefer to Josh, he has nothing to offer.

We have seen this act before and it propelled a disastrous decade of futility and the fire-breathing coach firers may have actually enjoyed the cycle of laughable coaching searches and hires. Of course they could get excited over Year One again and when the ship soon sank as was predictable - clamor for a new man to right the ship - that they themselves torpedoed.

I think Proverbs 17:28 may have a place in this thread.

Holy crap. You typed a whole lot of nothing when all you should have said is, “I accept and support mediocrity because I’m scared for Huepel and his staff to be held accountable and if you don’t support my opinion, you’re not a VFL”.

I’m good with Banks and his D staff being held accountable. His defense has averaged 65th best D over 5 years. His best was 3rd to 6th in 2024. In 2023 it was 33rd. Aside from that it’s been ranked 93rd, 97th, and I believe 100th.

Never live in fear my man, if you do, you’re settling. And I don’t want the Vols to settle.

I'm still 100% bought in with Heupel, but there needs to be serious adjustments made both in coaching and philosophy with the defense. Heupel proved he could evolve and adjust his offensive scheme, so I have no reason to believe he can't make adjustments with how he manages the defense.

Does that mean Banks needs to go? I'm not sure, but the discussion needs to take place. There has to be full scale evaluation. It was unfortunate our DBs went down, but the staff knew of McCoy's injury before the spring window closed. They also let Jokobe Thomas go after having a talented recruit flip to Florida. The staff had to know of Boo Carter's problem in the Spring as well. It's great we got Colton Hood, but outside him our only defensive transfer addition was an honorable mention Div 3 DLineman that didn't record a tackle until the Vandy game.

The bottom line is that we did not have the necessary depth in place. That is on the staff. The margins our thin and another player or two may have made the difference in winning two more games. It's a shame. But we have to learn from it. No need to call for Heupel's job though.

I believe it is the adults in the room that are able to be appreciative of the fact that Josh Heupel has brought this program back to relevance while also being able to acknowledge that he has faults and question how much further he can take the program. He has raised the floor, but how high is the ceiling with him as coach? I haven’t seen very many people calling for him to be fired. Most of those criticizing him are pretty much saying the same things. He needs to address the deficiencies on defense and the sloppy play on both sides of the ball, improve his clock management skills and stop going conservative at inopportune times. I would love for Heupel to be the one to take this team to the next level, but it is starting to appear that he might be his own worst enemy with his apparent refusal to make necessary changes.

It’s plausible that Heupel thought Banks was a quality DC after the D ranked around 3rd to 6th last year. But Banks crapped the bed and finished around 97th this year.

If Huepel wants to become a guy Vol fans hold on high regard years from now, he’s got to make the tough decisions regarding his staff. He’s got to grow a pair and grow as man, coach, and mentor. I just don’t know that it’s in his character. So far he’s shown to be far too loyal to his staff and is willing to accept mediocrity simply because he doesn’t want to become known as “that guy”; like Saban, a hard ass.
