Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I don't have any real issues with heupel and I'm definitely am not advocating him leaving or being let go. I understand the shortcomings.

But. He is at an inflection point. By his own hand or not it sounds like there's going to be changes on the staff this year.

Banks is a problem and I don't know that hazle is the answer at OC.

I think this is an important off season as far as what happens with the staff. The defense absolutely has to change. Getting embarrassed at home by vandy in year 5 isn't gonna cut it.

Anyone else think Heup is emotionally compromised (irt firing staff) from his own firing at OU as OC?
I think he's certainly sensitive to it. But I think it was wholly different bring that it was his alma mater, and it was a mentor that he had a pre-existing relationship with.

The other side is that maybe it taught him being a head coach requires making tough decisions.

Yes. He's going to be more willing to give assistants an opportunity to fix things because he wasn't giving that opportunity (he was also scapegoated when his offense was actually pretty darn good that year).

But I also dont think that means he will never fire someone. In fact we've seen guys move on that weren't cutting it, and I think those were de facto firings but allowed them to save face.
