Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

So did Kiffin take the LSU job? I thought someone said earlier he was staying at OM?

So basically here’s my thoughts/opinion.

There is a rule that prevents a HC who accepts a new job from continuing to coach his previous team. So Lane is 100% wanting to finish coaching this season at Ole Miss. I don’t know that he plans to stay there, but if he takes the LSU job he cannot coach another game for Ole Miss. (so no playoffs)

Same reason Alex hasn’t accepted a job, wanted to finish the season coaching & so many openings are popping up before regular season ends.

0.0% chance I’d want a HC that took another job to coach the playoff.

Thoughts?

Also who does Ole Miss hire? Golesh?
Ole Miss will make a late push to get Sumrall. Matt Moscona, LSU insider, said this last night. Said when Kiffin comes to LSU that Ole Miss will will try to get Sumrall. He said Sumrall coached there a few years ago (which I did not know), likes it there and wanted the HC job if Kiffin left. But he also said that Florida was very close to hiring Sumrall and it may be too late for Ole Miss.

Hired him to do what? OC? For them it’s a home run. They burn and churn coordinators
Tight Ends coach, my guy. ;) Shane ain't going anywhere I don't think. So they can hire someone their fans hate worse than Florida fans hate Sumrall?

There was a national report I saw earlier about the backlash. And he hasn't even said yes. It's almost like he wants to say no and is looking for a reason. Florida fans might give him one and then who?

What exactly has Heupel proven? Didn't prove anything at UCF. Has had some success here, but has he really proven anything? I really do think this offseason will tell us a lot about Heupel. What he does and what he doesn't do will speak volumes.
I think he’s proven as much as Kiffin who is apparently the prettiest chick at the ball. He’s proven he’s an elite offensive coach and a really good head coach. Not great or elite but very good. Could achieve elite.

Teams love Sumrall don’t they. Will be interesting to see what his future holds and how he does

Texas tech all the way now.

Proved how to win.

Go spend on the portal and spend $$$.

Our staff is too soft and didn’t try to improve over players. Go out and buy the best players you can even if it replaces a decent current player.

Coaches are soft and this team was soft. Need killers and coaches who demand excellence.

Heupel can either adjust and become better or keep with status quo. If no real changes are made, he is our mark Richt and we will likely hover around 8-10 wins a year.

I think he’s done just as much a kiffy but without the social media aspect
I don't disagree, but I don't think Kiffin has really done that much. I'll admit, I have high expectations. Yes, we made the playoffs last season, and maybe it was facing the buzzsaw of OSU right off the bat, but it just didn't feel like we accomplished much. We haven't even sniffed an SEC Championship. And this year was such a step back. Honestly, this game has me depressed and questioning everything about our program.

I don’t think he’s a bad coach but I also think teams are getting desperate. Apparently, Auburn was where he was going until their AD told Sumrall that Durkin had to be retained. Moscona said Sumrall backed out then.

On the SEC champ thing… no one has since Heup got here outside of UGA or Bama. Same again this year unless AUB pulls the upset.

I’d love to see him lose it on an official just once, or get in a players face like literally ever championship coach ever
yes there were multiple lineman down the field on their rpo dink and dunk and he sits there with his headphones on scratching his ass. No accountability stupid plays/penalties and no fire from the first game on to the last game. It also shows on the scores and actions in the games. You should be aboslutely beating the crap out of these teams and just lax bs too much. Series off and let them dictate the game. The whole second half just a ship show.

Imagine having a super star freshmen linebacker and playing Telander for most of the game. Or letting Jakobe walk and saying Turrentine is a good player. And not being aggressive in the portal for DBs when our best one was injured and we had no depth.

What a clown show.
I swear Huep Just plays guys based on Time on campus.

The SEC Championship is as difficult as it’s ever been with 16 and no divisions. Ole Miss has never been. It also doesn’t really matter to get in the playoff. Heupel has totally reversed our records against Bama and UF. UGA is tough, but I’ve never said that “we have no chance” with Heupel. I did for about 13 of 15 years before that. Being competitive means something. We were one FG from playing for a playoff again tonight.

It was a gut punch but Vanderbilt was good this year. I think in this era we are going to have to think differently. Sign fewer high school players and get more grown men from the portal. Huge difference between a 19 year old and a 23 year old. Also, no guarantee they are even around after you develop them.

I’ve been optimistic all year, but I really don’t have anything for tonight.
Same. Losing to Vandy sucks. And it gets coaches fired. I’m not by any means calling for him to be fired and I think he probably gets to 27 unless the wheels totally fall off.

Pretty much every loss had reasons to stay optimistic.

Georgia, we were a kick away.

Bama, a bad play call and worse throw completely changed the game. Plus just a poor game from Joey.

Oklahoma, again poor QB play and poor kicking. But we were in it.

This game just felt off. Poor clock management at the end of the half. Could’ve saved enough time to try and get points. Star Thomas only getting one carry. Hate the term out coaches but Lea certainly seemed to have his team executing better. Hard to find anything positive in this one.
