With a win over Charlotte tonight, Tulane will host North Texas in the American Athletics Conference championship game next Friday. Otherwise, North Texas will be at home against Navy. Tulane is No. 24 in the CFP rankings. North Texas is unranked.

If Tulane doesn’t win then the auto bid will be between Navy, North Texas, and James Madison. Going to be interesting how it shakes out.

This makes their loud mouth as hole QB look so smart. They can beat TN anytime.
They got a lot of help from Birmingham in the first half, so I read the tea leaves, tuned out, and made some awesome “chili” with our leftover turkey and a great stock from the carcass.

Maybe our loss to OU keeps Vandy out? 🤷🏼‍♂️
Maybe. Now that Vanderbilt has a quality road win, they will probably jump Utah and BYU whenever they lose to Texas Tech again in the Big 12 Championship. It’s going to come down to Alabama. If they get upset by Auburn then Vanderbilt will slide in there.

James Madison pounded Coastal Carolina so they advance to the Sunbelt title game against Troy. (So. Miss had a shot but lost to Troy today.)

The choice between the Sunbelt and American champions will be determined by their respective CFP rankings.

If Tulane gets in the CFP over Vandée I will totally lmfao.

I’m rooting for the Dukes and the Green Wave.

Roll tide!
The only thing that would throw a wrench into everything is BYU beating Texas Tech and the Big 12 becoming a 2 bid league. That will knock whoever the last team is out. Alabama is currently 10th and won’t move up unless they win the SEC Championship. If they lose that game and BYU wins the Big 12 then Alabama could get left out again…

Locks:

Ohio State (Big 10)
Indiana (at-large)
Georgia (SEC)
Texas Tech (Big 12)
Oregon (at-large)
Ole Miss (at-large)
Texas A&M (at-large)
Oklahoma (at-large)

Currently In but could change:

Notre Dame (at-large, next to last team in)
Alabama (at-large, last team in)

Auto Bids:

ACC Champion (Miami/Virginia/SMU/Duke)
Group of 5 Champion (Tulane/North Texas/Navy/James Madison)

In The Hunt:

BYU (will need to win Big 12 or hope ND/Alabama loses tonight)
Miami (will need to win ACC or hope ND/Alabama loses tonight)
Vanderbilt (need ND/Alabama to lose tonight)
Texas (only in the discussion if Notre Dame and Alabama both lose)

The tricky thing is going to be if Tulane loses and James Madison loses their Conference championship. Zero Group of 5 teams are ranked. Idk how they would determine that. I guess they would just select the American champ by default lol

Most of all I am for Bama not making the playoffs again. They haven’t made the playoffs since NIL began and other teams could also pay their players like Saban had been allowed to do all along. 😂

But no way the Birmingham crew and remote review booth will allow Bama to lose. That makes Bama’s game unwatchable in advance imo.

But I can’t stand Vandy getting in either.

At this point I’m rooting for BYU to beat Texas Tech so that puts heat on Alabama and Notre Dame. If Alabama loses the SEC Championship and finishes 10-3 they could still finish 10th in the rankings and still not make it in due to BYU, ACC, and Group of 5 getting auto bids and leapfrogging them.

Conversely, if BYU and Alabama both win their conference championship then that would knock Notre Dame out.

So if we want Alabama and/or Notre Dame to be left out then we need BYU to win the Big 12. Everyone wanted auto bids but this is what happens whenever you go down that path. We got shafted out of hosting a CFP game in Neyland last year because of getting leapfrogged by Boise State and Arizona State. Alabama will throw a damn fit if they lose the SEC Championship and still don’t get in.

I think our athletic department needs to rethink how they distribute their NIL. We don’t need an elite top shelf QB to win games, just one that understands the system, can hit the deep ball, and protects the football. Pour all of your money into the OL and the defense, maybe one elite receiver and some complimentary guys to fill around. Heupel schemes these guys open so we really need to focus on the defensive side of the ball imo.

Now that I am thinking about it, the committee will probably flip Notre Dame and Alabama in next week’s rankings to protect Alabama due to having to play the extra game. Either way, one of them will be in danger of missing out if BYU wins next week. Maybe that will force Notre Dame to join a conference.
