Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I can’t get over how bad Manning is. So glad he didn’t come here and embarrass the Manning name at TN.
It was all Archie's decision for him to go to Texas. It never made any sense to me. I was like, "Really? Texas?" yes they are a huge brand and can pay a lot of money, but Sark hasn't ever really impressed me as a coach.

Going to the game tomorrow. Never been to a cold game before (from Florida not used to sub 50 temps lol). Will inside the stadium feel any warmer? Should I double layer?
No. Inside the stadium will not be warmer. I remember one year at Vandy being sooooo cold, and this was while wearing a wool band uniform. Smuggle in a portable heater.

Shorts and a tank top............. Show your dedication
Does anyone remember how cold it was during that Vandy game in Neyland in 2016? I was there and I wore layers of clothes, hand warmers in my pockets, warm cap, scarf and I froze my butt off and was miserable the entire game to watch Tennessee lose to Vandy at home. I swore I would never put myself in a situation for a repeat of that experience. I hope for the sakes of everyone who goes, we pull it off.

For the record, I've been on the record that Vandy was good this year since September.

But no, no we don't.

Does Ohio State have to take Nebraska seriously because they got Raiola? Did Oregon take Colorado seriously when they brought over Travis Hunter?

Spending your entire NIL budget to steal a headline and get one player does not a dynasty make.

There's no secrets in the game anymore. For Vandy to be competitive year in and out, they will have to spend competitively every year, which they aren't going to do.
This ignores what has made Vandy good. They focused on bringing in older, veteran players from multiple levels of football. That gives them an advantage. Like having a team full of Keenan Pilli's and Bru McCoy's (age wise). Pavia is the flashy thing that draws the attention (though he's in the same category) but they're solid all up and down the roster. They aren't just Pavia. He's not Johnny Manziel or Cam Newton.

When Pavia leaves they are still going to be a solid, disciplined team that'll probably middle-of-the-pack in the SEC. I think they'll consistently be better than any Derek Mason team and occassionally be better than James Franklin's best teams. And both of those eras caused us problems.

Also, Lea's new contract promised more resources to football, and I've heard the baseball donors are stepping up to move funds towards football. That's whats helping secure Curtis.

I said every year, not never.

It isn't possible to build the senior-heavy team they have this year, every year.

They won't be middle of the pack because the middle of the pack SEC teams will be outspending them.

Thats what I meant when I said there's no secret sauce. Unless Clark Lea is some kind of genius, he isn't going to consistently get more for less in terms of NIL payouts.

I remember in the mid to late 90's going to a game at Vandy. Rain in the forecast, so my stepfather tossed a couple of opened packs of rain suits at us. When I got there to put on the suit I found out it was jacket one size to small and missing the pants. Sat in the stands with a puddle in my lap wearing a tight ass jacket......... We won like we usually do but that game sucked!

Don't wanna be called a ho, then don't be one...Kiff is a sorry sack of 💩.
It's not a good look for Lane.

I know what he's saying. He's doing all of this FOR Ole Miss fans. I don't know if he ever explains that fully, but there won't be as many teams next year with openings that people will assume can hire away Lane Kiffin.

Ole Miss' brand: ⬆️
Recruiting: ⬆️

It's the absolute only explanation that ever made sense to me why he would do this.

But fans right now are listening to these podcasts wanting someone to empathize with THEM. All this dude said was, "You can't make a ho a housewife" or something really similar. He was joking, but it was what fans wanted to hear.

But there was a camera there for this exchange. I'm always inherently skeptical of things that just happen to be filmed like this.

The Trinidad jersey theft too. Why would there be video unless it's meant for the fans?

So, it could be both of these guys were acting for a reason we don't understand immediately. How much of what Kiffin does appears to be an act? Think about it.

Wut? Holmes… An impact corner beats Georgia. Probably Oklahoma. We are good “enough” on the line. That one player, no doubt in my mind, changes the entire season.

But moot point, he wasn’t healthy enough. Just theoretical.
Let me ask you this, and I do have an opinion but I'm curious what others think: would you rather replace one of our safeties with Caleb Downs or have had McCoy the entire year?

Caleb Downs is a freak, he’s like having a cornerback and LB, but he plays safety. So I would like to see what we would have done with him.

Vandy is all the rage in Nashville right now. I live here and I see it everywhere. Tennesse has an omnipresence in Nashville so I'm not saying anything about Tennessee here, but there is a lot of incentive for businesses located in Nashville to support NIL for Vandy players especially now that they are winning games. That's not going to disappear. I don't think they have a future that's worse than the Franklin era.
