He’s the kind of kid that needs to blow up for a year or two at a UTC or Peay, and then go get your cash.
Hes good enough to play in the SEC, and he will eventually earn a scholarship if he comes to Tennessee. But I agree, would like to see him cutt his teeth somewhere else first

I thought in ‘26 we began having 105 scholarship players and no more walk ons?
Hubbs a couple weeks ago:
I checked on that this afternoon. I understand the SEC is staying at 85. The rest of the power 4 is going to 105. Strange decision by the SEC and it was a vote of the schools.

These days, isn't a preferred walk-on pretty much someone that's going to spend a year at our program as a walk-on and then we'll have to re-recruit them next year because someone's likely to throw $100 bills at him?

That's stupid. The school's voted to allow other conferences to have a competitive advantage? That makes zero sense.
You're not thinking about NIL.

What good is having the literal Top 100 players for HS (theoretically) on your roster if each them want 500k + a season?

We will have competitive advantage because we will be able to pay the best players a competitive wage.

I could be wrong, but I could see it negatively affecting non-football sports due to title 9.

The extra roster spots that the other P4 conferences will be allowed will allow them to take these 2 and 3 stars that normally would go to the Group of 5 teams and pay them reasonably small amounts of NIL money... Kinda like having a practice squad in NFL...

Or you never know. You could come up with a fellow like U of Pit did under Coach Majors did with his 105 recruit (as he told me) his first year at Pit. The guy was a little running back named Dorsett....

Practice Squads in the NFL are 17. So including practice squad NFL rosters are still less than 85. 105 feels excessive. I would rather take the money for the last 20 and focus it on a better 85 than have an army of walk on/g5 caliber players.

Yes I know how many are on NFL practice squads... Hence the phrase " kinda like ".

But isnt the back end of the roster basically the practice squad already? The extra 20 spots serve no purpose in the transfer portal era. Having 5 deep at every position seems wasteful to me.
