Some of these were very big stories in the news. A lot of people had red, shakey faces, upset that President Biden had swapped Viktor Bout for Brittney Griner, while leaving Marine veteran Paul Whelan in the Russian penal system.

Hardly anyone knows who Paul Whalen is if they don’t google the name.

I still don’t know any of those UCLA players names; whatever faint memory I had of that event, I couldn’t have told you why they were detained or what college they went to.

Very, very few Americans got upset over any of that.

Cool, so deal with them or send them back to America!

We have urchins invading this country and are met with resistance whenever attempts are made to send them back to the third world. There’s a pretty big difference between the two situations, wouldn’t you say?

The Democrats were upset Griner was "taken hostage" and Republicans were upset Whalen got left behind when Griner was swapped for Bout, with Bout himself being a very famous individual. Maybe you didn't hear about it, but it was widely reported in the media and widely discussed. The UCLA players were well-known to college basketball fans. Cody Riley was a highly recruited player out of high school and a starter on UCLA's most recent Final Four team. Maybe you didn't keep up with basketball or watch the Final Four, but a lot of people keep up with it. It's not unusual. And the Ball family was famous, the father in addition to the sons.

I didn't get arrested in China because I didn't shoplift, but neither Trump nor Biden would have done anything for me had I gotten arrested, nor should they have. They only got these criminals released because they were famous.

Actually many do and did know about him and the UCLA BB players. A lot got really riled up over Michael Fay too.

American investor Jim Rogers has been to North Korea multiple times and has a good relationship with the North Korean government. It minted a silver coin to honor Rogers' two daughters. Rogers has often said, "I'd love to invest in North Korea and Myanmar and profit from their economic growth, but I'm not allowed to because I'm a citizen of a free country." 😅

Muhammad Ali went to North Korea. Dennis Rodman has visited North Korea multiple times. A New Zealander I personally know has been there. It's not a big deal if you obey the law. Billy & Franklin Graham have been there and even they didn't get arrested since they didn't break the law the way some other religious people have.

Warmbier committed theft and was imprisoned for an actual crime, yet Americans called him a hostage, just like Griner.



I certainly don't condone the physical abuse Warmbier took from guards or other inmates that caused his vegetative state and eventual death, but I'm not going to pretend prison violence doesn't happen in American prisons too, with Epstein, Dahmer, Whitey Bulger, and the Boston Strangler being the tip of the iceberg of inmates killed while incarcerated. The USA's massive prison population and the rapes that occur in our prisons possibly make the USA the first nation in world history to have more men raped than women. Yet, men still visit the USA. Some end up getting raped in prison and some don't.
