What was our projection before this season?

My guess was 8-4 with 9-3 being the high water mark. Both appear a bit too optimistic based on what we’ve seen to date. 7-5 seems to be today’s reality.

I root for the Vols with my heart. I try to project without orange colored glasses. I said 8 and 4 before the season started. I'm sticking by that. 7 and 5 won't surprise me. Will happily be wrong if we manage 9 and 3.

When Nico left, and I remembered we had lost 4 of 5 starters off OL, I predicted us for 6-6.


Looks like we are more of a 7-5 team.

I hate incompetence. I don’t hate CJH. But when he does INCOMPETENT things as a “coach,” yes, I hate that. I stand beside that—he’s a great recruiter and a good guy; but he is an atrocious coach at managing his players and games. He’s in over his head and needs to figure it out or he’ll end up on the street too.

I'll concede he has time management issues late in games and I would like to see him work with someone on that or hire a guru, but the rest of that assessment is way off. You don't go 45-18 in 5 seasons being an "atrocious coach at managing his players", especially considering the improvement from the record the previous 5 seasons of 29-31. It isn’t like Heupel has had greater talent either, he is just better at managing the team and getting the talent the players have to show up on the football field. Consider UT's 247's team talent composite rankings for 2016-2020 which produced the 29-31 record:

14th, 12th, 15th, 16th and 15th

And then UT's 247 team talent composite rankings that produced the 45-18 record:

19th, 19th, 16th, 17th and 16th

The difference in the record is Josh Heupel, and that sure as hell doesn't look like "incompetence" to me. I've seen the knuckleheads in our fanbase crater our program once in my lifetime and folks need to acquire some damn perspective fast or they will do it again.

Vegas was 7.5 and 8.5 wins depending on which company and when you looked.

The SEC media picked us to finish 9th in the SEC this year.

We will likely beat any of those projections. I think we finish 9-3. With a chance to win the bowlgame and have 10wins again.

I am admittedly a big supporter of CJH...but I dont know why the best thing we could go for on 4th and 1 was a pass to freshman TE JVD...and nobody told him 5times to get his head around immediately due to pressure coming. I also question going for the onside kick the 2nd time instead of kicking it deep. I know we are super thin and young on defense though due to injuries. Our defense played well enough to win. Our offense committed 3TOs, gave up too many sacks, dropped too many balls, and ran on 1st down at least a dozen consecutive times for a total of 10yds. I know we have to stick with the run...but if the defense KNOWS you are gonna run it up the middle every single 1st down then you stay behind the schedule all game and it eventually bites you.

We had a bad game. At home with 40 recruits and 12 different 5* guys watching. Its not the end of the world though...and CJH is THE best coach in the SEC not named Kirby.

If Max makes his chip shot against Georgia, we're not even having this conversation. Thats how razor thin the line is in this league. As frustrating as this team has been to watch this year, looking around the league at all the coaching vacancies and drama surrounding Kiffin and Ole Miss, I'm EXTREMELY grateful to be in our position right now!

Not sure I'd call it a chip shot especially on that stage, but it just comes down to 2 or 3 plays in most top shelf games. The team that makes those plays wins. UT doesn't usually make those plays while UGA does. Just not in our DNA.
