I’m sure there’s plenty on here that’s been in a chow line that would have experienced ‘filling and enough food, but …….’Wow. This parallels my dad in the Navy so much. He was on a mine sweeper. I can't remember if he was in port in Charleston or Miami. He didn't get leave for Thanksgiving. The cook for the ship got leave. The commandant of the ship asked if anyone knew how to cook. Dad volunteered to cook Thanksgiving dinner. He went to a pay phone and called his mom and got instructions on how to make dressing. So dad made a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Afterwards the commandant called him over and said it was the best meal he had in his whole time in the Navy. The rest is history. He was a Navy cook for the rest of his tenure.
