Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Vandy normally gets beaten, blown out in some cases, by those teams that they've beaten. I know South Carolina, LSU, and Auburn have issues, but those rosters are still infinitely more talented than Vandy. They also held their own against Texas in Austin, again against an infinitely more talented roster. A "typical" Vandy team probably still beats South Carolina this year but loses to LSU, Mizzou, and Auburn. They'd be 6-6 right now.

Pavia is undoubtedly the straw that stirs their drink, and I'm curious to see if Lea can keep their good run of play going after he leaves. But saying "he isn't a good coach - he hired a guy who brought in a really good player" is a non sequitur. Hiring good staff members is a huge part of any HC's job.
Go back and watch their game with Texas. Texas owned them for the entire game and just gave up some stupid plays in the 4th quarter. It's like Texas got so far ahead they just relaxed in the 4th quarter

I wouldn't put Saban up there on my list because he cheated his ass off. Thats why he quit. He knew his advantage was gone. He still had to manage that roster though so I'll give him credit for that.
If that is the criteria then there wouldn't be a list besides Neyland, maybe Bryant (doubtful) and McCay (Doubtful) and coaches from the 50's and prior.

Fulmer, Saban, Osbourne, Switzer, Urban, Jimmy Johnson all cheated and paid players to come to their schools. Some, like Saban, had their ties all through the SEC and NCAA and that made them look the other way and into the smaller schools because they were too big.

All time...

Saban - most championships (7), 80.6% career, 297 wins (5th all-time)
Bryant - 2nd most championships (6), 78.0% career, 323 wins (3rd all-time)
Joe Paterno - most wins all-time (409), 74.9% career spanning 5 decades (60s to 10s) is impressive and all at one school
Osbourne/Urban/Bowden/Hayes - can make a case for any of them...personally Urban for me cause 85.4% career and 80% in bowl games at 4 different schools is crazy
I just can't put Joe Paterno on any all-time list with what was going on there. Especially since there are rumors that he knew.

Jimmy Johnson might be on just the "football" coach Rushmore... to win a Natty in college then win 2 super bowl championships with the Cowboys being you basically were the HC that built that team...impressive stuff

Pete Carroll is also a hell of a coach. 83.6% in college with 2 Nattys, 1 SB and 57.1% for 19 years in the NFL is also pretty damn good stuff.
Forgot Carroll but you are right.

Johnson had the Cowboys set for Years but he and Jerry were both too stubborn. I think he would have won 2-3 more Super Bowls with them. Switzer was a great college coach but wasn't a great NFL coach.

Pavia's legs don't worry more than Taylen Green did. Let Perlotte crack his skull a couple times and he'll think twice about every move he makes.

They're gonna try to light us up in the secondary. We need a big game from our db's. Seems like our defense was a lot better last week vs UF. Is it because they suck real bad or because we're better without you know who? Probably a little of both.

We all know we should've beaten UGA. We should've beaten OU and we should have been in a 1 possession game at the end with the sister bangers. 1 common theme in all of our losses: we beat ourselves. If we don't have a catastrophic play, they don't stand a chance.

Play clean football and do everything else the same as we have all year and we roll andy.

Essentially the same thing Herbie said on Saturday minus the sister bangers part. We beat ourselves. Which means we are easily playoffs quality. That means we have to beat ourselves again to lose to Vandy. Trust the eyes. Penalties, mistakes and coaching errors kept us out. Play the game well and we win easily.

We need to do the exact same thing this Saturday and jump on Vandy early and often while shutting them down. Make them get away from their ball control offense. Scary thing about that is they are actually better offensively when they run tempo.
The only thing stopping us is ourselves.

Just don't turn the ball over like we did against UF and we are good to go. Their only hope is Joey throwing picks, fumbles and special teams mistakes.

The Oklahoma game would have looked like Florida if we didn't turn it over and miss FG.

We'll blow the doors off...the dores if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot.

Yeah...I mean, did those plays not happen? They were down 24 at one point and lost by 3.
