The Official #17 Tennessee vs. Rutgers Game Thread, 1:00 PM ET, TNT

I think what you're saying is there's a difference between landing the 15th ranked player and a top 5 one. Which...

I think if you look at John Calipari's last few years (post NIL) he was landing a lot of those 5 stars ranked out of the top 10 but no longer top 5 guys. Kentucky fans thought he forgot how to coach. That's not it.
I think it was both. John Robic left and Cal kept running a really stale, outdated offense.

I think it's way to early to put a true freshman ahead of someone like Tobias Harris. I get you're exicted and he may have a better NBA career, but how many guys period have better NBA careers than Tobias Harris? Never a star but he is set up for life.

Fair to say Nate has as much upside I think.
The conversation wasn’t about who would ultimately have a better NBA career. It was about the best true freshman basketball player they’ve witnessed at UT. That poster was comparing Ament’s overall talent level/impact on the team to Harris’ when he played his one year here in ‘10/‘11.

Harris averaged 15 ppg & 7rpg his lone year at UT, & made 2nd team All-SEC. I expect Ament to finish with similar #’s assuming he stays healthy all year. They’re both generational talents and very easily the best two prospects UT has signed in decades, if not ever. Our other recent 5 * guys like Phillips, Keon Johnson, Springer. Chandler, etc… were all really good players as freshmen here. But, guys like Harris & Ament are on a totally different level of talent/impact.

Well said

This is without a question the best UT basketball team I have ever seen and I feel like we say this every year lol

There's so many pieces on this team. I could definitely see this squad making a FF run if everyone stays healthy
There is so much luck in getting to a F4. I just don’t expect it any longer. You have to have a guy that is basically unstoppable on offense and incredible team defense. Plus the tourney draw has to be favorable to your strengths. It’ll probably happen someday when we don’t see it coming all season.

Baylor - St Johns is going to be a heck of a game. It's too bad they've got 18 teams playing and margin of victory counts, because there's probably going to be foolishness like a 3-2 Kansas team breezing through Syracuse and Notre Dame and making it to a "championship" game over someone with a better resume.

Agree with that.. but sure wish Tobias had a HC that put as much on him as Aments is. Would’ve been a huge help in March and I think helped him be a top 10-15 pick. Jmo
Tobias' freshman season was Pearl's last. That team started folding midyear after the Pearl stuff came out

I forgot about Chandler. He had a huge impact his freshman season. Led us to the conference tournament championship.

Understand. But expectations are built at the beginning of the yr. Thats what I was referring to.. I still agree with your pt
That team was pretty loaded and had dominated in the early part of the season. They had won at a top 5 Pitt then won the preseason NIT beating Villanova in the championship.
