Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Defense will be the biggest portal need. Secondary and DL. If/when Merk goes, we'll need a QB. OL could end up a need depending on who stays and who goes. Unexpected losses could lead to more needs. WR should be good. RB should be good. TE depends on if we lose anyone. LBs should be good. But the known portal needs atm will be secondary, DL, and most likely a QB.
I like your new (to me anyway) Avi!

I blame ESPN for what college football fandom has become. It's win every game or you're "mid". Meanwhile, the entire landscape is constantly changing and these half-assed "fans", who couldn't tell you who Casey Clausen is, started popping up around 2022 and began demanding the world of Heupel. The guy has done an incredible job of providing stability to one of the most unstable football programs of all time. Even more impressively is doing it while dealing with super harsh NCAA sanctions (if you want to argue with me about it, I got the list ready to go), and in a sport where the rules change literally every year. Navigating all of this and still producing on the field has been nothing short of incredible.

If you still aren't impressed by what Heupel has accomplished here while navigating new obstacles every year... just ask yourself...

How is two-time national champion, Dabo Swinney handling it?

How about one of the greatest recruiters of all time, Mario Cristobal? How's he doing?

What about Steve Sarkesian and his $40 million roster? How's he doing?

What about 6 time Super Bowl champion, bill belichick? Is he handling the changes well?

Heupel has had a lot more obstacles to overcome than all of these guys, but I bet in a head to head, Heupel's team could find a way to beat all of them
Agreed - Well said. When do/did the recruiting sanctions end?

I am 59 years old. So, I’m old. What made me mad was first defensive series and almost everyone was just sitting Saturday. When we struggled at first they were complaining and saying how no one was making effort and some booed. I had enough because I stood up and yelled and everyone else sat. I finally yelled as loud as I could. You all want to boo the effort when all of you are sitting on your azz’s.
Exactly!!!! And I start yelling really loud right after the bad guys‘ offensive play is over - seems to me we want the QB to not hear anything from the sidelines! 😁

You know, there have been years in recent pre-Heupel history where the Vols rushing stats in games against Florida would be a couple dozen total.

Yes I would’ve loved to see a few quick strike bombs from Aguilar last night, but racking up MASSIVE running yards - at will - suited me just fine. 💥👏

The broadcaster last night said he was still in College in 2003. Time marches on.

My broadcast went directly to WLOS Asheville and he said he was in high school the last time it happened.

Do love how they talk about all of the ET/WNC teams across the Smokies region. Especially now that Clemson is down bad. UT may be further away, but we're the hot commodity across sports.

Can’t understate how much it helped that the players who played in the swamp last night didn’t have any Gator baggage.

Just a game to them. Not a mental hill to overcome.

We were the better team that dominated a weaker opponent. As it should be.

Vandy will be the same mentality but they are a much better team than Florida.

If Joey gets to return next season he’ll be sitting in NYC next December
As much as he should be, we all know that the media will pick and choose others to hype up during the preseason and all season long, and he will not even get a mention.

Just got a commit out of N Georgia.
