great win but slightly disappointed

You most certainly can make a legitimate argument that we took our foot off the gas pedal. However, we had the ball for 45 plays in the first half and only 28 in the second. Part of that is due to the fact that the Reptilian Horde ran the ball more consistently and with greater success in the second half, arguably in part to shorten the game. We played an almost perfect first half and I assume that the opposition coaching staff was quite aware of the fact that, if they weren't careful, they could wind up losing somewhere on par with, say, 45-0, and on their home turf no less. I, too, would have loved to see that a la 1990, when we smoked Spurrier 45-3. However, the second half's course of events, in my opinion, was to preserve some shred of dignity for the lizards. I am not attributing that to Heupel but, rather, his counterparts across the field.
I will go on the record we played the second half to high standards. Think about it

All i can say is i have never seen us put belt to ass against a main rival like we did tonight. Anyone could tell we let off the gas in the 2nd half.

Once again, my remarks were specifically directed to the original poster. I was not at all critical of Heupel or of our performance in the second half. The Lizards did everything they could to shorten the second half, thereby avoiding an end result that could have been utterly humiliating to their team, coaching staff, and fan base.

It was, indeed, delicious. Comparable victories include the 45-3 and 38-7 victories over Florida in 1990 and 1970, respectively, as well as the 41-14 rout of Alabama in 1969. We were ahead 34-0 when Dickey began pulling first-line defenders. That was the game during which Steve Kiner rebuked the Tidy Bowl boys, as he left the field, with essentially the following message: "Look at that old man [Bryant]; he looks pitiful. There was a time when those crimson jerseys meant something."

I’m pissed. F Florida! Why not score 50+ on those jackasses!!!!!

I hear ya and I would've loved that. But the practical outlook is you've got the game in hand, just kill the clock, take the win and get back to Knoxville. Had we suffered an injury to a key player by running up the score it would've been devastating. We are already out of the playoff, no need for style points.

I’m mildly disappointed in our fanbase. We stomp them in their home for the first time in 20 plus years and all people can do is bitch about it.

I'm more than mildly disappointed in our fanbase because a lot of them didn't make the trip to the swamp. Pitiful showing in the stands! Bet there were less than 1,000 fans there.

What is with some of you? We went to The Swamp and not only beat the Gators, we dominated them. Sure we let off the gas some in the second half, but we still got the job done. And I am sure that Coach Heupel didn't want to risk anymore injuries since we were up with a huge lead that we wouldn't have to worry about them making a comeback on us. If someone told me two days ago that we'd go down to Gainesville and beat the Florida Gators by 20, I would say that I'll take it. To the ones complaining, just take the win and shut the hell up.

The amount of “men” not wanting an absolute curb stomping is disappointing but expected in this new era of softness.
Or the amount of men realizing keeping it vanilla in an attempt to keep candy from having much to go by in the last game of the year.....in Neyland btw.......is expected in this new era of smartness!

After 11 games we are supposedly “hiding” the playbook for the last game. Yep, you are a wealth of football smartness.

Here’s the funny thing….

Remember everyone questioning if Heupel would know how to slow it down and run the ball to protect a lead?

Well, now that he does it, it’s somehow wrong.

We only had 3 possessions in the second half. We punted, missed a FG, and had the ball in the red zone when we ran out the clock. That’s not as bad as many ar
Great, dominant win. I’ll take those all day long.
1 possession for 5+ minutes, then the final 8+ minute drive where UT just imposed their will on UF. UF also had a 8+ minute drive in the middle of the 2nd half against mostly backups. CJH put Hobbs and a few others back in to keep them out of the endzone. People are ignoring that both Sanders and Bishop went down in the 2nd half. Thankfully both are ok, but it would really suck to lose starters when the game is in hand.
