Okay, i am having a hard time understanding the logic of the people arguing against JA coming back. If I am understanding the argument, we shouldn't want him back because of fear or worry that GMac will transfer leaving us with only JA and a true freshman backup. The same people seem to be assuming that FB will win the starting job in 2027. Here is my take on it:
1. Ty Simpson sat for his first two years behind Jalen Milroe without transferring. Arch Manning sat his first two years behind Quinn Ewers without transferring. At least in Simpson's case, he had a dynamic 5* kid come to Alabama in the 2025 class. It is not at all a certainty that GMac hits the portal.
2. If GMac did hit the portal, what is really lost if you believe FB wins the starting job in 2027? Do you think he would transfer if JA came back next season but would relinquish his starting job to FB and stay as his backup if JA doesn't return?
3. If FB takes the starting job in 2027, then the only thing to really compare, even if JA returns, is who gives you the best chance to win in 2026. If GMac would transfer out due to Joey returning, we would have a true freshman as the backup QB. If Joey does not return and GMac starts next year, he will have the same true freshman as his backup.
