Lagway was in the preseason Hypeman Trophy talk. In August he was added to the Davey O'Brien watch list. On Saturday he will play like he belongs on both, after he throws 3 touchdown passes, 300+ passing yards, no interceptions and runs for 50+ yards. In the end, Vols win on a 53 yard field goal as time expires!
I think it will follow old school football protocol. Who ever runs the ball better will win . And as I said before turn overs will be key. Lagway has more turnovers right now than touchdowns. But Joey has been turning the ball over as well . I would say each team has at least two turnovers each , whomever has the third turnover losses!

Joey A. needs a signature win. This is likely going to be his final opportunity of 2025. Vanderbilt is the game we can’t afford to lose. Florida is the game we desperately want to win.
What Joey needs is to be made of carbon fiber and have Lawrence Taylor’s motivation the entirety of the game.

The significance of this game and the Vandy game are the trajectory for CJH.

At UCF he was:

  • 2018: 12-1 overall record, 9-0 in the AAC
  • 2019: 10-3 overall record, 6-2 in the AAC
  • 2020: 6-4 overall record, 5-3 in the AAC
If UT loses these final 2 games, we see the same pattern playing out.

Tell me you know nothing about football...his last year at UCF, 60% of the team refused to play because of COVID and he lost his top 2 QBs to injury...

-night game
-road game
-at the swamp
-playoffs are gone
-kids more focused on their portal prospects
-teams reflect their coach

Nothing about this team leads me to think they have the competitiveness and physicality to win this one or even make it close. UF by 2 scores minimum.

Indeed. As the Frost recruits filtered out, you could see the negative trajectory. Now that Pruitt's guys have mostly departed, we see the decline taking place just as you pointed out. From my perspective....worst case as usual...we lose this one. Got no juice and Vandy humbles us at home. Kids begin focusing on any/everything but football and we draw the wrong opponent in the bowl game and finish 7-6. That puts Heupel squarely on the hot seat and unfortunately, he won't make the hard choices necessary to hold on. With the easy schedule now in the rear view mirror, I see his time at UT on a 2 year clock. He either gets fired or takes another job to restart his clock.

Yeah, that looks pretty much identical to:
2021: 7-6, 4-4 in the SEC
2022: 11-2, 6-2 in the SEC
2023: 9-4, 4-4 in the SEC
2024: 10-3, 6-2 in the SEC with a playoff appearance
2025: 7-3, 3-3 in the SEC with two games to play plus a bowl game

Unfortunately, I think they win comfortably by at least 2 TD's. The year it should be easiest, we'll completely melt down. We are their Kentucky.

I think it is important to weight why Florida has struggled mightily this year and how that matches up against us. My take:
1. UF Defense is very good save for a couple of exceptions this year - We will score but not at will (Matchup favors us slightyl)
2. UF Offense is inefficient and turnovers have killed them - Our Defense has been a weak point but opportunistic (Matchup looks even)
3. Turnovers have hurt both of us. This will be the difference in the game. The Maxims always win.

Believe we break the streak in a tight game; we win turnovers we can pull away

I didn't vote.

My thoughts are none of the above.

We don't really get blown out or anything like that, but we are just never really in the game. Always 7-14 points down and never really with momentum.

Just yet another game like so many I have seen against the jorts wearers

They will make it hard as hell. But we are facing a 3-7 Florida Gators team with significantly less talent than us. It's tough to play at "The Swamp", but this is a Florida team prone to making mistakes. If our defense plays tough and our offense puts up enough points, I say we can come out of the Swamp tomorrow night with a win. I say we win by two as Gilbert will finally rise to the occasion and win on a 30-something yard field goal.

It's interesting that they feel that way. Even with Jaden Baugh and DJ Lagway, they haven't rushed for more than 115 yards in any of their last three games and average 122 yards per game for the season. They think we can't run the ball, even though we average 54 yards per game more than they do? Does our defense stink? Mostly yes, although we do seems to excel in opportunistic plays and defensive scores. Is their defense much better? We are 14th in the SEC in total yards allowed. Where is Florida? 13th. Our rush defense is 9th in the SEC, theirs is 13th. The only real advantages they have are in passing defense and scoring defense. We are 16th in pass defense, they are 11th. We are 15th in scoring defense, they are 12th. If you ask me, neither defense is good and theirs is going to face a much better offense than our defense will. How much better? We are 1st in total yards, they are 15th. We are 1st in passing yards, they are 12th. We are 7th in rushing yards, they are 13th. We are 1st in scoring offense, they are 15th.
Wow you really broke it down . Bravo with that information I’m feeling even more confident. Yes they do have home field advantage but remember that in most of the years that we played them there we played them in September when it was hot as hell in Gainesville I believe the last time we beat them there the game was delayed because of 911 and we played in November and we won do I do think the hot weather had something to do with our losses! That won’t be a factor this weekend it’s going to be in the 70s at game time!
