Seems like a lot of them might be from playing so many different players? When the roster shrinks I think some of the turnovers will also

I do think some of this is simply us rotating 11 players consistently for the first 5 games, but how much is still unclear. JG has generally been too loose with the ball for my liking as our starting PG. I don’t know that all of that is just too many players in the rotation.

I think the best bigs are Estrella, Okpara and Brown. That’d be my core there.

I’ve not personally seen it with Henderson.

Bosewell is a wait and see.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Abram all year but Barnes has been hard on him.

Burg has been wildly inconsistent handling the ball of late (after being the only player in control early in the year) and gets the hook on defense a lot. But he has been steady shooting the 3 and free throws.

I think Cade has played well defensively and does a good job at picking his spots on offense on when to look to score. But the three bigs you mentioned definitely have the best upside, IMO.

What will be interesting to me is to see how long Barnes continues to play 10-11 guys as many minutes as he has. I think the rotation is going to need to shrink some. I don’t think Henderson is ready for P4 competition.

I’m really excited to see us play some real games next week in Vegas. We’ll handle Rutgers rather easily on Monday. Houston the next night will obviously be the real test/barometer on where we are. Hopefully we’ll qualify to play a game on Wednesday there as well.

If I had to guess the 2-3 that will see minutes cut as competition gets harder are Burg, Henderson & Carey.

There is potential for Cade to also play less, but being a 3rd year guy with his motor makes it less likely. I feel like Brown is a bit better overall than Carey and the JP & Felix have the most size. But we all know Barnes is hardest on his guards and Burg & Troy have been playing a bit too careless.

Hell I think 2 of JG’s TOs were actually Troy for a bad pass

I know I won’t shut up about Brown. But he is just oozing with potential. Just an all around talent that I think you have to play and get him ready. He will take lumps against better competition but I think you gotta live with it. Too damn good not to develop.

I think Cade will have his place defensively, Carey will have his place in matchups where his strength is needed.

But IMO, play Brown more than them.

If completely healthy, the rotation should be this IMO.

Starters
Gillespie
Abrams
Ament
Estrella
Okpara

Bench (In Order)
Boswell
Phillips
Brown
Carey
Burg (Limited Minutes)

Out of Rotation
Henderson

I fully expect healthy Boswell to start since that’s what Barnes did to start the season, but I think Abrams is the better choice. More well-rounded. And Burg has the potential to see his minutes grow throughout the season as he gets more comfortable.

Not sure Barnes is any closer to finding his rotation, especially considering they’ve now had to play without Boswell and Estrella some…would presume Henderson probably sees a minutes cut, and one of the posts but maybe that’s matchup dependent, Barnes typically trust experience and that would seemingly favor Carey > Brown, but we’ll see. Truly fascinating stuff, we’ve not had depth like this and this much uncertainty around a rotation, I love it, leads to intrigue in these games even late and really heightens competition. I do think it partially to blame for turnovers and think those will clean up some as a result of finding a rotation, curious to see how Vegas looks.

I think Henderson could be the answer
He’s gonna have a longer leash than Boswell back there, as long as he can compete on the D side. He has explosiveness BB can’t compete with. Imo but Will commit more turnovers than him because he’s so much faster with the basketball. It’s a blessing and a curse for pgs at one time or another.
