The reason I hate “Stormtroopers” as a nickname for this common road uniform. Those idiots couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.

There is a reason it seemed like they couldn’t aim and get a bad rap. They were ordered to let the Rebellion escape so they could be tracked back to their base. Also, not all stormtroopers are created equal. There are some units that are more supervising and just peacemakers per se, not seeing a lot of action, while others have a lot more experience in combat and those are the ones that are considered amongst the elite.

Darth Vader essentially determined whether they lived or died. He wasn’t interested in killing Rebels unless he found out where their headquarters was so he told the stormtroopers to let them escape so he could hunt them down and destroy their planet.
