You're so edgy and intelligent. Wish I could have the foresight you have.

It's because we are fans who root from the sidelines. If people didn't believe we ever had a chance the stadium would look like UCLA's.
Sorry. Not trying to be "edgy". I'm ashamed of myself for stating my opinion on a forum full of opinions.

We're winning by 10+. Go ahead and write it down in ink.
If I thought the staff was competent, I’d have that same mindset. But this staff fails to make adjustments on the fly and can’t even figure out adjustments at halftime. To me, this is a frustrating staff.

Against Arkansas, we were behind 17-10 with 4:30 left in the second quarter. We went on a 24-0 run from that point until halfway through the fourth quarter when we took our foot off the gas. I'd say there were at least some adjustments made there on the fly.
Against Kentucky, we had let them go on a 14-0 run to pull within a TD with 1:30 to go before halftime. We went on a 21-0 run from that point until less than a minute left in the third quarter which effectively put the game away. Seems like there had to be some sort of adjustments made on the fly in that game, as well.

Was that adjustments or finally, a reflection of the talent gap? We’re supposed to spank Arkansas and Kentucky. Notice we don’t do that against Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, or any other team that has talent or a staff in close proximity to ours. I’m glad you didn’t mention Vandy.

BTW, the Vols should never assume the game is well in hand. That’s one of the problems that causes some unnecessary stress late in a game when the coaches thought they had the game in hand until they don’t. Hammer down until the 4th Qtr clock reads 00:00.

We never took our foot off the gas vs Arkansas. Heupel did what he always does, goes conservative instead of putting our foot on their throat. Big difference.

I would consider it as adjustments seeing that, in both instances, we scored a TD going into halftime(weird considering Heupel apparently has no clue how to manage a clock), then came out to start the second half of both games efficiently on both offense and defense to create separation. I understand the frustration with our team blowing perfectly good opportunities against the top teams in the conference. I feel the same way. My blood pressure certainly feels it. I just think it is a bit unfair to pretend the coaching staff is incompetent or is incapable of making adjustments. We can't just ignore the instances where they do.
I completely agree with your last statement.

Two ways of saying the same thing basically. That is what I meant by "took our foot off the gas". I think, if we had stayed aggressive offensively, we would have won that game by 20+ points.

I fully expect us to fumble a victory formation kneel down and a slow azz DT rumble down the field for 60 yards as time expires to propel Florida to a 1 point victory. I've witnessed UT losing just about every other scenario, each one getting more ridiculous. The BVS runs strong in my family...my father has it...I have it...

Everybody here is a clock management genius. Facts are Heupel over his time here has been great scoring late in the first half. Unfortunately we only remember the times it didn’t work.

And I understand that, too. The failures always stick out more than the successes. I feel it as well, every Saturday, as I find myself verbally abusing my television for four hours. Some people way overblow the criticisms with words like incompetent, incapable, etc. In my opinion, the legitimate criticisms are perfectly sufficient. There's no need to blow it so far out of proportion.

With any luck at all the campus will be emptier than usual following Thanksgiving Day this week. Couple that with UF is not going anywhere for a bowl. So enthusiasm for this game by the gatas may not be the usual that we feel down there. If we really want it we should be able to win this game. But our "want to" seems to have deteriorated and been sliding since the UGA game.

Lol if we beat less talented teams it's because of the talent gap.

If we lose to more talented teams it's because the staff can't make adjustments.

For the record, on the talent composite we're as close to Arkansas / Kentucky / Mississippi State as we are to Georgia / Bama. The gap closes every year, but it's not there yet. The fact that we treat those games as "givens" is a testimony to how well this staff executes with what they have.

Imagine thinking this staff "isn't competent." Craziness.

If I recall correctly, under Heupel, the Vols have beat one team that we weren’t favored to beat but we’ve lost too many to teams that we were favored to beat, or played them embarrassing close, or had to pull it out in OT. There seems to be a trend and it’s not upward.
Let’s see what happens tomorrow and if they can pull it off against the mighty Commodores next weekend. Aside from the embarrassing loss to Oklahoma in Neyland, the next 2 games define the season.
