FSU would have a lot of trouble paying him an upper-tier salary. He was making close to $10m, but gave like half of that back this year to help with NIL.I sort of agree with you and that's why I think FSU might be a good fit. I don't see him winning the SEC and my personal impression is that he just stays one step ahead of sanctions. Maybe that's because of his time at Usc.
Also, I have to say that seeing Florida fans clamoring for Lane now is surreal in itself for those of us who remember lurking on Gatorcountry in 2009.Do you think Ole Miss is happy with any of this?
Do you think they want him to sign an extension, get back to work and end all of this?
Do you really think they want all of this swirling around during their greatest season ever so he can troll people?
If he wants to troll people, he can use twitter
Not necessarily disagreeing with you but it does seem like Lane has matured a lot since 2009. He needed to.Tennessee took a gamble on Lane and it took him less than a year to sh!t on the program. His antics flared up again at Alabama before playoff time. It’s now an annual tradition at Ole Miss to troll his own fan base about leaving and this time when Ole Miss is having a historic season and about to be in the playoffs.
If you deal with Kiffin you’re playing Russian roulette loaded with 6 rounds.
Lane is dumb if he leaves for either one of those jobs, IMO. He has it absolutely made there. He has a top 10 salary (and likely to go higher) at a job that is most certainly not top 10 in terms of pressure or expectations.
The only place he should consider leaving OM for is possibly Oregon.
This made me laugh. Sorry I also posted it in one of the other CLK threads.Agree completely, said this from the beginning. They'll build a statue of him at Ole Miss if he has that program competing for a playoff spot most years and is consistently winning 9-10 games. He would be a god if he ever won a natty there. He would be fired at LSU being a 9-10 win coach with no championship game appearances, and likely at Florida as well after he wears out his welcome. He runs the show in Oxford, but loses some of that control in Baton Rouge or Gainsville.
He's got a great thing going at Ole Miss, and the other two spots are dumpster fires for different reasons. The grass isn't always greener indeed.
Maybe Ole Miss would rather Kiffin bail now while they still have a playoff appearance looming than after the transfer portal closes. I see it as risk mitigation on if a coach is going to leave anyway, give yourself more time to find a good replacement.I understand that Ole Miss is trying to avoid being at the back of the line on what is turning out to be a crazy coaching carousel. However, giving a coach with multiple options an ultimatum is a risky move. If I'm Kiffin, I bail based on that premise alone, but that's just me.
