Oxford: Are we going to see "couch burning" again?

All the talk that "Lane has matured...softened...grown...BLAH-BLAH. Watch him dump OM & chase another "dream job".Seen this B-movie before. 👎 🙄
You really can’t make this stuff up. Openly sends his wife and son on “visits” to two schools with open head coaching positions while his team is on the verge of a playoff berth which forces an ultimatum from Ole Miss. Talk about disrespecting your employer. And if he’s just trolling LSU and Florida, that’s just typical low class Lane. No good way to spin any of this.

This is where we disagree. I don’t think he has to do any of this to get the deal he wants from Ole Miss.

He can tell Ole Miss exactly what he wants today, including a key to every sorority house on campus and they’d give it to him.

He does not need to mess around with Florida or LSU to gain leverage. He has all the leverage any coach could dream of.

All he has to do is say, I want “x”, ole miss will tell lane “no problem”., and we’d have a deal
Sure. 100% Ole Miss will offer him "ALL THEY CAN" but LSU and FL may offer more, a better situation for his family, etc.

A man has the right to look for better for his family, for his career, etc...... right?

LSU, FL, and several others this season had ZERO trouble firing coaches to look for better guys. Most companies have ZERO trouble replacing an employee if they think they can find better. Most employers will look around first, gauge the job market, think of some candidates, then they may or may not decide to fire a coach or employee.

Why is it awful if an employee looks around before deciding to take another job? Why does the school get to hold all the cards here?

Speaking of couch burning, if he continues to do this song and dance between the 3 teams, and chooses LSU or Florida it just shows Kiffin hasn't changed from leaving Tennessee for USC and then being fired a few years later. That was 17 years ago. He is going to have that pressure even more so at both Florida and LSU.

He might want a challenge, but he has to be careful with his decision. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Lane is dumb if he leaves for either one of those jobs, IMO. He has it absolutely made there. He has a top 10 salary (and likely to go higher) at a job that is most certainly not top 10 in terms of pressure or expectations.

The only place he should consider leaving OM for is possibly Oregon.

Tennessee took a gamble on Lane and it took him less than a year to sh!t on the program. His antics flared up again at Alabama before playoff time. It’s now an annual tradition at Ole Miss to troll his own fan base about leaving and this time when Ole Miss is having a historic season and about to be in the playoffs.

If you deal with Kiffin you’re playing Russian roulette loaded with 6 rounds.

I can see some of our fans shaking in their shoes right now. Thinking oh no if Kiffin goes to UF we are doomed 😂😂😂😂😂😂

That’s what I was thinking. I mean he could win 9 games at OM and never be in jeopardy of losing his job. Whereas LSU and UF have much higher expectations.

I agree with you completely. It's just my opinion that if you are looking around (in his specific situation), it's not to gain leverage, it means you want to leave.

I do not think after all this he's going to say after looking around and carefully weighing all of my options, I've decided to stay.

If he thought Ole Miss was going to low ball him, I'd be on board with him. But, he can go in and ask for the ridiculous right now and get it. For me, what that means is I'll be happy to take the ridiculous from somewhere else, thank you very much.

I could be wrong. We'll see.

Let me also add to the "leverage" argument. Where the leverage argument has merit (IMO) is pitting Florida and LSU against one another......which again means he's leaving Ole Miss. I don't buy using Florida and/or LSU to get more out of Ole Miss.

He’s had a contract on his desk from ole miss for over a month
And this is why UT...or any other football program...cannot trust him. He is who he was. Zebra cannot change its' stripes.

If he plans to stay at UM, he should have made it clear long before now. But he loves being the center of attention, and the drama.

If you hire Lane Kiffin, you are simply renting him until the next bigger better offer comes along.

Good coach. Absolute trash as a man. Not a single ounce of integrity. He's too far along at this point to change who he is.

And at some point, AD's and players are going to figure that out. When they do, Lane's days on the front page of CFB are over.

Maybe Layla just wanted a free trip?
All jokes aside, Lane could put a stop to the whole thing if he wants to stay in Oxford. Just say I am staying, mean it, and go on with your season. While this does create a bunch of media attention for Lane, and we know he loves attention, it isn't the kind of attention his employer wants or needs. They knew what they were getting when they hired him and I do not feel sorry for them. But, it is pretty weak of Lane to do this if he plans to stay. He should make a statement that yes he has been contacted and yes they have made an offer, but he is going to wait until the season is over to begin thinking about it. To me that would be the best for everyone. LSU and uf may disagree, but bummer for them.

I understand that Ole Miss is trying to avoid being at the back of the line on what is turning out to be a crazy coaching carousel. However, giving a coach with multiple options an ultimatum is a risky move. If I'm Kiffin, I bail based on that premise alone, but that's just me.
That would be difficult to do as a competitor. They are a top 5-7 team that could beat anyone in the country - maybe not Ohio State.

He’s brought that program from the doldrums so I’m sure he’d love to see how far this team can advance. I’m sure his players want him to finish the yr regardless.

I thought Kiffy was just playing the game until the city tour stuff started. Pulling this during a what is supposed to be a sure fire playoff run is over playing your hand to a ridiculous degree. Maybe he should go to LSU. He's made Ole miss as big a circus as they are.

The question now is what does Ole Miss do if he doesn't give them an answer before the Egg Bowl? Do you suspend him, fire him?

They'll do absolutely nothing, and Lane knows it.

This 4-year run they've been on with him, outside of Johnny Vaught in the late 50s, is the best stretch of play in the history of their program. He has all the leverage. He isn't bigger than their program, but I'd say he's kind of close to it.

Even if they did fire him, that just means he doesn't have to pay the buyout to leave.

If I were LSU or UF of be doubling his buyout in any contract offer after this nonsense though.

Hmmm. What if Ole Miss and Kiffin are playing 4D chess here? What if Lane isn't serious about leaving and everyone in Oxford knows it?

By dangling himself in front of LSU and FL, he's slowing their coaching searches by keeping them from going all in elsewhere searching for a coach. Anyone else they contact is going to think "I'm just the failsafe if Lane doesn't come because it's clear they're talking to him."

If Kiffin pulls a Lucy and jerks the ball away, LSU and FL are left with having to ramp up a search for someone else which leaves LSU and FL still floundering.

Who benefits from LSU and FL being "Lucyed" by Lane Kiffin? One of the winners is Ole Miss.
Now that some convoluted conspiracy dark web sorta stuff. I love it! While the idea is way out there Kiff is the type that might do it. I’m on board!

In true Lane Kiffin fashion, 2/3rds of the people in the deal are gonna get screwed.

Do you think Ole Miss is happy with any of this?

Do you think they want him to sign an extension, get back to work and end all of this?

Do you really think they want all of this swirling around during their greatest season ever so he can troll people?

If he wants to troll people, he can use twitter
he is using Twitter.

LOL.... Oregon doesn't want him. He's a money first, program second kind of guy. Oregon has the right guy and I hope we can keep him. Maybe USC... :) oh, wait I think he did that gig already. I think he'd be a really good fit at a place like Florida St.

I didn't say Oregon would actually want him. I was trying to think of a place that would pay him more money that OM while at the same time not having a dramatic increase in pressure or expectations.

Oregon definitely has more expectations than OM, but it isn't a "if you don't make the national title game then you had an awful season" job like a lot of SEC jobs are or the other top Big Ten jobs are.

I sort of agree with you and that's why I think FSU might be a good fit. I don't see him winning the SEC and my personal impression is that he just stays one step ahead of sanctions. Maybe that's because of his time at Usc.
