Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

The nine game conference schedule isn't a disadvantage. If the selection committee penalizes the SEC for beating itself up and puts in a disproportionate amount of Big10 schools who would be average in the SEC the playoff ratings will dwindle. IMO the SEC going to 9 games will force the other conferences and ND to step up their game and competition level.

Never happened before. Literally never. The B10 has never been inspired by anything the SEC has done except the top 3 or so teams. Now they added USC and ORE...so ofc there will be 2 more...but they also added weak azz UCLA etc to make about 10 other B10 teams whose 4year recruiting averages fall from 30th to 60th nationally. Feel free to look that up...I aint...but theres about 10 B10 teams whose last 4 recruiting classes (and the 30 or so before those since classes have been ranked) are NOT top 25 classes. They are 30th or worse. Meanwhile we have the 9th ranked class in 2026 and
There are 5 SEC schools above us now instead of 4 since Beys flipped to the suckeyes.

He was smart to do so honestly...scared to compete with the Matthews, Staley, Jackson, Smith, Dodson, etc...PLUS #1 Keys, King etc in next years class. He was gonna be the least experienced WR in a LOADED 4WR class...thats chasing a WR room with 5 guys already in it that are freshmen and RS frosh. Thats 8 WRs in front of him with only 1 or zero years ahead of him towards graduation. Hard sell. OSU may put all 3 starting WRs in the NFL this year and will definitely put 2 again. So theres opportunity at OSU for playing time. Not gonna happen here...and we are gonna lose half the guys we have now out of those 9. Hope we keep the right 5 and theyre dominant.

Yeah Oregon and Ohio State already been on that plan for 2 or 3 years now. Outspend every other team in the country. It worked for OSU last year...but they just got hot at the right time with a healthy B10 team that had only played 2 decent teams all year and made that playoff run IMO. Hasnt panned out for ORE yet...but it could this year. I would say dropping $30M plus yearly like they both allegedly have been doing IS likely the best strategy. Other teams like Texas and aTm have tried to do the same but not had those results yet.
I think it also important to remember that we don't really know the total payroll on athletes for the program. AFAIK the amounts reported are estimates.

Fulmer was a better recruiter than The Hype but the recruiting game is completely different now than in CPFs tenure so it's hard to compare. CPF also had one of the all time greatest OCs for much of his time. We all witnessed what CPF was minus Cut.

I think the Hype can be a championship winning coach, he just needs to tweak his staff a little. Since there is no longer a limit on how many on field coaches he can have he needs to bring in some specialist position coaches and increase his support/analyst staff. UGA has something like 14-15 on field coaches while we have 12 and their support staff outnumbers ours by a dozen or more.
Why did the relationship between Phil and Cut go south?

Best way to tell is who they are going after recruiting/portal wise.

Same teams going after the same players for the most part....

If you have current setup and reduction in regional ranking biases, we were slam dunk or likely playoff team 14/20 years from 85-04. Only 2/21 years since.

16/41. 2/5 years in playoff is a reasonable benchmark.
Only way to reduce / eliminate regional bias is to let Vegas determine the rankings. Gamblers don't care about bias.

I asked hog so I'll ask you, too.

Why was memphis the worst and lsu/arky the most impactful?

Because Memphis absolutely sucked and team wasnt prepared. Wyoming was bad but it was understandable given the turmoil.

LSU and Arky was when we lost a chance to play for a natty by losing to an inferior team. Fulmer never recovered from the 01 LSU loss...

While that loss was the most painful, the 99 Arky loss might have cost us a better chance at a title. I would have much rather gone against the 99 FSU team than 01 Miami...

Outside of the 98 season CPF always blew a game or 2 he should have won and he tried his damnedest to blow a couple in 98.
