After digesting this, Nico, Boo (Who) = losers imo.

When I applied to be a deputy sheriff. I had to have physical and a psychological evaluation to make sure I had no mental issues that would not be detrimental to myself, the department or the public. Maybe these young men should be evaluated for the same reasons if they are not already having the evals done.

Coaches might need to get better at evaluating intangibles in recruiting now that the program is in a better place than when they were hired.
It's getting harder with the
N.I.L., transfer portal, etc
Greed personal prestige & $$$ taking precedence over loyalty, teamwork, honesty.

Right! We need complete and comprehensive background and character assessments of each and every High School recruit before we even consider their on the field talents. Why take a chance on a potential first round draft pick when you could settle for a well rounded bench warmer.

Easy to post after the fact (and insult them anonymously) when we all know there would have been an epic meltdown if Heupel had not signed Boo. If he had left after last season the same would have happened.
I love how people act like they’ve never seen this happen before and then start insulting and blaming people as if they’re entitled to something.

Yeah, just a tiny difference between a LEO carrying a gun and a qb running shotgun.

Take any of the young men in the NCAA you are talking about and ask yourself who their hero's were growing up, who they looked up to, who they emulated, who they associated with, and so on.

Is it any wonder?

Nature vs Nurture?

Really, nature vs nurture?

I'll give you the final say

Boo's mom, Nico dad, Lavar Ball examples of helicopter parents ruining their kids while trying to live off of or thru them.
Wrong on Lavar. He pissed off some media folks but he definitely raised his boys into successful young men. The other two parents mentioned appear (allegedly) to have had a good situation already going and meddled their way into a mess that they couldn't get out of at some point. Lavar created the situation that his boys are in and the boys are already well paid and set up for their future in that situation..

Coach Barnes is as good at evaluating the “intangibles” and any coach I’ve ever seen. He even evaluates the family…which can generally tell you more about the kid than personal interviews. Of course he’s only dealing with a handful of kids each season so obviously it’s easier to do for basketball.

Agreed. Hindsight is 20/20 but im not surprised that Nico or Boo didnt work out. Nico came to UT strictly for money and Boo was a walking red flag. Both had undeniable talent so I dont blame the coaches for taking a chance. I think the program is getting to the point where we can use those resources on great talents that might not have as much baggage.

Just saying, We do not need losers in Neyland. We produce winners. Somebody needs to do better recruiting homework, jeez!
Everybody gets bad ones. Our coaches actually do a really good job evaluating talent. Perry on the OL should be a star and almost nobody wanted him. I think we get "hits" more than "misses". You only hear about the problem starters and very little about the successful ones.
