'26 GA EDGE Jordan Carter

Tennessee is set to host defensive lineman Jordan Carter this weekend. Auburn appears to be on the outside looking in with their lack of a head coach. The former Texas A&M commitment looks to be down to Tennessee and Georgia Tech. The Jackets have been known to be a big spenders with in-state talent, just like with Josh Petty last season.

Tennessee will look to build on the momentum. They have built the last few weeks with him as he has a really good relationship with Rodney Garner. We also wonder how much he would really like to play in the SEC.

+1. Harris is a stud and the body type we’ve done best with at Edge. Carter is an elite SDE and with Thomas will fill out a CFP-level front 7 class.
It's really crazy that of all the players we're going to lose to graduation/draft, we've got equal, or in many cases even better guys, behind them.

Yep we have enough 215 pound D-ends. We need some Carter types there. And we need to bulk up the interior. We have to continue to get bigger and stronger up front. The top teams have big fast guys, your not beating them with smaller fast guys. Pressure and strength wear on teams. That’s where you dictate games. GBO

Who’s 215? Josephs, Carter, Herring and Ross are all 240+

and slow. cant get a push on the Aggies, of NM State.
They all weren’t when they got here. My point is Carter is already 245, it should be easier to add strength that having to gain 20-25 pounds right off the bat. Sometimes you have to and that’s fine, but the bigger and stronger they are when you recruit them the better. Being in good shape is also important bad weight can be just as bad or worse than having to add a lot. Also finding the players that are willing to put in work to add muscle and get into shape is just as important. I have no problem with recruiting a lighter size end, I was just saying it’s nice to get one that has some size at an early age. Strength is equally important as size, it’s a combination of things. But the bigger and faster you are the better, I know that. Sometimes it takes guys 2-3 years to get their bodies at optimum SEC ready strength, the quicker one can get there the better. Take Pierce for instance, as good a speed rusher that he was he often got knocked out of plays and was not a consistent edge setter. We need edge setters. GBO

I never said that, I said he often got taken out of plays. You’re twisting the issue. One of the few concerns the nfl had was him getting off blocks better. Pearce was a very good player for us but he did have things to work on. Do you think we do a great job of setting the edge??? Pearce wasn’t the main topic of my conversation. The point was as good as he was the one area that he was the weakest at is one of our bigger overall problems. We need a better mix of pass rushing ends and edge setters that can stop the run and not get blocked out of plays. I can’t make it any more clear than that. GBO

Over the weekend they hosted former Texas A&M edge rusher commit Jordan Carter and I like the way that one is trending for Tennessee. It was Carter’s second time in Knoxville since reopening his recruitment. He has upcoming trips to Georgia Tech and Auburn. The Vols look to be setting the pace going into those visits.

We are talking about overall. You can always find an exception to the rule. Just like that handful of unranked recruits from 20 years ago that turned in something special. Ton Brady was a late draft pick. Try to make a living off drafting 7th round qbs and see how long you last.

If anyone thinks our play and recruiting at the edge/end position the last few years is bad, then you haven’t been paying attention
Very good getting to the quarterback, this year we aren’t as good against the run or controlling the edge. We just need a better mix there. Some of it is our interior depth isn’t as deep and our the back end of our defense lost our 2 best players. But we could use a few more good strong bodied d-ends in run support. I like our d-ends and we’re young there but we need to keep building depth and hopefully our returning players at the LOS and linebacker will continue to improve. That’s the key not getting complacent and working hard in strength and conditioning. GBO
