It does matter. Because the ability to get them to the NFL is still a thing. It matters in the portal even more and Lane has made a living there. "The bigger bag" has made it to where you can win at not Blue Blood schools if they are willing to pay for it. If you have similar $$$ offers from 2 schools, something has to be the tie breaker to a recruit. If he is going to jump, LSU is the better spot than UF. But like I said, they are a circus with the dang Governor up in everything. UF has to deal with FSU and Miami recruiting well again too. I think Lane is just playing the game, and doing it well. You think in the age when recruiting success is dependent on how big a bag you can drop that something like you are suggesting is going to matter in recruiting? Or that that would be Lane Kiffin's thought process?
Tennessee should absolutely win the game but…there is no way anybody will be shocked if our 5th year HC loses to the worst Florida team with an interim coach. Then…Kiffin takes the job and gets to smirk in our faces after he beats us every yearYeah, but …. Damn. No need to get in the fetal position a week before the game
And he may do option C, leave for an NFL job. Two are currently open and how deep Ole Miss goes in the CFP is irrelevant when it comes to taking an NFL head coaching position. He may do "A". He may do "B"
If you don't consider "A" and "B" to be real possibilities, I don't know what to tell you.
Cignetti got a new deal. It's reported Elko is getting a new deal. Same for Brohm. etc, etc, etc.
If it was a clear cut decision, Lane would give Ole Miss his number, they'd have a contract on his desk in less than 5 minutes, and it would be a done deal.
More resources, but worse in state recruiting once you accept that you have to share that with FSU, Miami, and everyone else.
LSU is the holy grail, but if not; you stay at Ole Miss and use this to leverage more NIL money
It honestly makes way more sense for Lane to lead LSU and Florida on for those reasons. Especially this coaching cycle in which there are so many spots that will need to be filled. If I was in Lane's position I would do everything to make them think I was truly interested, even if I had zero interest. There’s also an argument that if Lane drags those schools along so late in the cycle, they have to panic hire a couple mid major coaches and are set back another season or two while Ole Miss continues upwards.
I personally want to see him string Florida LSU and Auburn along as late as he can into the postseason where they have no good options lol
Normally I’d agree but LSU is an absolute mess right now with the governor poking his nose in and the whole did they or did they not fire Kelly debacle.More resources, but worse in state recruiting once you accept that you have to share that with FSU, Miami, and everyone else.

Did you watch the FU game? They do not suck.Tennessee should absolutely win the game but…there is no way anybody will be shocked if our 5th year HC loses to the worst Florida team with an interim coach. Then…Kiffin takes the job and gets to smirk in our faces after he beats us every year.
Before I die, I’d like to see Tennessee be dominate for a couple of years. I’m middle aged and I doubt I’ll ever see us win a natty again. We’re a snake bit program. That being said, I’ll be right there cheering them on with my Bill Dance hat on and win or lose, I’ll be wearing it the next day.
Dude they are 3-7! They are a terrible football team that plays hard when they want to. Please don’t try and convince yourself that Florida does not suck. If we lose to them, we suck worse![]()
Oh absolutely agree! Tennessee better overlook anybody. It just eventually you’ve gotta beat somebody on their own turf. This was the year to best Alabama at home as well but…True, but they've been competitive against teams they had no business being that way against. (Ole Miss,Georgia and beating Texas) It would be wise for Tennessee to not overlook them especially playing at the swamp.
Thought UF rolls off the schedule as a regular opponent? If so, he can't beat the snot out of us EVERY year. They'll just leave that to UGA.Tennessee should absolutely win the game but…there is no way anybody will be shocked if our 5th year HC loses to the worst Florida team with an interim coach.
