Just really enjoy the name on this one. Should be a pretty one-sided one this year though. 75th meeting between the two. WKU leads the series 38-35-1, having won the last 6 straight matchups and 9 out of the last 10 between the two.

MTSU is bottom 5 in FBS this year. Pretty inexcusable given the talent in Middle TN and Murfreesboro alone. They aren't going to get any 4*s but they should be able to have a few decent 3*s. That program should be growing and becoming better over time given the Middle TN population growth, not getting worse.

Mason was an atrocious hire, but I would not be surprised whatsoever if Sidney McPhee ensures he's kept for another season.

100%. McPhee has been there way too long, as has Chris Massaro. The Murfreesboro mayor has even been publicly critical of university leadership.

As an MIddle grad (grad school) who also worked in the AD, there is a growing belief that a lot of what’s happening is intentional that the powers that be in the state want to undermine the university, which is why they left McPhee in place. I always chalked it up to conspiracy nonsense but the decision have been so bad it would have been difficult for things to be this screwed up if you were overtly trying to screw it all up.

The athletics there went from being on the cusp of top tier in the G5 to one of the worst in the nation. The place needs a complete house cleaning. Though it may already be too late.

They are bad, but I don’t think the state has had anything to do with it. McPhee has been making poor decisions (professionally and personally) there since 2001, and they were one of the few schools left behind a few years ago when the American raided CUSA for five schools. Nobody wanted them. They finally made a commitment to upgrading the football and basketball facilities but as you said, it’s too little too late. Massaro also let Stockstill stay way too long and compounded the misery by hiring a worse coach in Mason.

I’m sorry but that’s not accurate and it does have a lot do with the state. Massaro is micromanaged by McPhee, so please know this has everything to do with both the state and McPhee. When Kermit went to Ole Miss after MT was like second in the nation in wins over a seven or eight year period, Massaro had Ryan Odom ready to sign but McPhee wanted McDevitt. When Stockstill was fired, Mason wasn’t even on Massaro’s long list. They literally hired a guy that wasn’t coaching and no one wanted. McPhee botched the the law school transfer with the state. It was literally a student representative from UT who cast the deciding no vote at THEC? Why does a student from UT get to have a vote in the state on MTSU issues?

Also, why did the state leave him in place after the sexual assault case? Or after he made news headlines by saying he was trying to commit suicide? McPhee has failed persistently and epically yet he’s maintained his position for over decades when most Presidents tenures are usually no more than five years? There are people that wanted him exactly where he’s been. Ask yourself why. No other person would be allowed to have as long of a run as he had even if he was a model citizen who just happen to be ineffective or incompetent. But McPhee has all sorts of additional baggage on top of it that’s public information. Bottom line this is what the state has wanted. There is no other explanation.

Mason can’t recruit his way out of a paper bag. Chris needs to fire him today.

I know it's MTSU but they were making bowl games 3 years ago and played for the CUSA Championship in 2018 so it's not like they have been terrible. But Mason has made them completely irrelevant.

I think we know why he’s still in his job.

They just spent $60 million on a player development center for football. It won’t do them anyone good as they can’t keep good players they have now.

AD & President should not be allowed to hire another coach in anything.

MTSU isn’t gonna be paying any buyout, lol

That’s a shame.

I really hope they get this figured out as an alum of MTSU as I’ve seen them pull off some remarkable seasons in football and maybe more so in basketball.

Sorry to see, didnt go to MTSU but had many friends from Chattanooga who did, many of whom played baseball in the late 60s.

Anybody know what their NIL budget is? UTC has it's worst team of the Rusty Wright tenure including losing to Mercer 63-17 Saturday. Here is a quote from Coach Wright in todays TFP:

"Wright has also publicly pointed out that those programs make significant investments in their players in terms of name, image and likeness compensation — and he has said UTC's budget was $35,000 this season, which led to the mass exodus of talented players to the NCAA transfer portal after last season because they wanted to get paid in NIL."

$35,000 for a football program, prettty pathetic.
