The Official #23 Tennessee vs. New Mexico State Game Thread, 4:15 PM ET, SEC Network

We had plenty of runway when we fired Jones and ended up with Pruitt.

There are too many schools looking for coaches that would get first pick over us. We need to keep the coach we have. We just do.

I don’t want him to leave but he has done nothing this year to warrant an extension or a raise. Give him a pat on the back and say let’s get it done next year.

I do not want to see Heupel leave at all. I would like to see him make a few staff changes. Do you think these reports of other programs interested in him is a case of his agent getting his name out there because the schedule the next few years gets really difficult?

It's internet trolls throwing 💩 out there and seeing if it sticks.

He aint going anywhere. Never was

We played a scrimmage today. Yet we had how many injuries with first team players? Once again, there was zero reason for most of the first team guys most of the season to be playing today.

But once again, so many of you think we simply lack the coaching or the recruits to handle a 3 win C-USA team.

Wonder if A&M fans are worried about their second team having to play minutes against Samford next week.
You’re making some HUGE assumptions and skirting the issue. A coach isn’t going to bench a senior qb that’s playing well just to develop a freshman after a loss that prevents their team from making the playoffs.
Benching Milton would have been foolish

It's amazing he isn't making 10 mil coaching somewhere

Yes because so many people talk about his 2023 season like it was some season among the greatest in Tennessee QB history.

This is a playoff sport now. Once you are eliminated from contention, the season is over. It’s really that simple. Players are paid now. I seriously doubt they will have hurt feelings getting benched for the guys who will be here in the future while collecting high 6 figure money. lol. Happens every year in the NFL once teams start getting eliminated from playoff contention.

Watching this Florida game has me concerned.

They legitimately look like a good team....

If Huepel loses that game, does he leave due to the pressure from the fans
pressure from 20/30 year old football forum posters? Geez I hope his skin is thicker than that

You know it will get ugly if we lose to Florida next week, regardless of our history verses them. People are going to look at their record and the circumstance.

Also you know the sports shows and media will start to gaslight the situation

I am fully prepared for us to be 7-5 or 9-3. Regardless, I don’t see a big difference in them because the season ended two weeks ago with. The loss to OU. I don’t think Heupel has to worry about being on the hot seat after this season is over regardless of the record. I think he’s earned at least 2 more seasons and the right to right the ship.

I do think his seat can go from cold to hot next year in a few weeks if we have shaky QB play and have multiple losses by this time of the year.

But I don’t think his seat temperature is gonna change at all regardless how he finishes out this season.

I’ve lived thru the worst years of 4-8, 5-7 multiple years, slim years in the 80’s, I’m in no hurry to go back thru a botched coaching search with 15 other teams looking for a coach, down years happen but I’m not willing to fire or run off a coach for 1 uneventful year out of the 5 and trade it for another 15 year rebuild

Good grief. It is COLLEGE FOOTBALL. The season did not end 2 weeks ago. It’s not playoffs or bust. Stick to Sundays if you have that mind set.

That last statement isn't remotely true

Vols with the W. Not a great showing but it’s pretty much more of the same for this Heupel team - undisciplined and not very well coached. Heupel can’t even say that Carter is off the team in his post-game presser.

Don’t think that Josh called a good game at all. And, HIS offensive line got beat tonight too many times by a team that TN should have rolled with its second and third teams. It’s not going to get better in the remaining games. Mediocrity is where we find ourselves.

He thinks Kiffin is an elite coach and drinkiwitz is great too. I wouldn’t worry about the kids opinion

Fan police. If TN can’t be a top 10-12 program under Heupel the he isn’t the right guy. It IS all about the playoffs and Heupel getting just south of 10 mill per yr to get there.
