Did We Recruit...

Ty Simpson (Martin, TN) ?
Marcel Reed (Nashville) ?
Pruitt offered Ty’s father a job and of course, Ty would go to TN w/him. He was leaning towards taking the job. Pruitt called him a bit later and told him he had to get some things worked out. Soon after Pruitt was fired.

The father said he was happy he didn’t tell his employer he was leaving as he wouldn’t have had a job. Crazy story.

What’s funny is he works in the same system as Pruitt. Randy Boyd effectively is both their bosses at the time.

Didn’t think of that.

I wonder the number of coaches with sons of elite football/basketball skills, receive offers to be on staff.

From what I can remember, UT gave Wade Houston the job so Alan would play for the Vols. He wasn’t qualified to be head coach for a SEC program.

He was Denny Crum's right hand at Louisville, plus he was the lead recruiter there.

No
BINGO.
Makes me so mad.
Heupel stinks at evaluating QBs.
What is he? 0 for 5?
Where do you get the 0 for 5. Nico was the number 1 QB in the country. You would most likely crucified him if he did not land him. He pulled in Jake Merklinger who was an extremely highly rated and sought after 4 star. He is a very good QB, just does not seem to be able to process reads fast enough to work in our system. He also brought on George Macintyre, another blue chip QB. Dn
Don't forget, the kid is 18 and was skinny as a rail. He had looked good what time he has been able to play. I don't think he would have survived on the field. He has another 5 star with mad skills coming in next year. And last, but definitely not least, he brought in Joey Aguilar and was able to get him up to speed to be one of the top QBs in the SEC, IN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS. Other positions I could see, QB?

Heupel did get a little bit of time to recruit Ty but recruiting relationships for blue chip players usually are well established by the time they are sophomores in high school. Heupel was hired in late January 2001 and Simpson committed to Alabama in mid February 2001. Heupel kept open communications with him through signing day but it’s hard to make up three years of recruiting in just a few months…

Read an article the other day where Ty and his dad were set on coming to TN as Pruitt was gonna give Ty's dad a job. Ty's dad said Pruitt called him when s*** hit the fan. When it was obvious Pruitt was done, Ty committed to Bama.

he coached HH, Joe Milton, and recruited the #1 QB in many rankings. Nico Iamgonnaleaveya. 2/3 are in the NFL.

Sam Bradford
Drew Lock
Dillon Gabriel

Joey Aguilar

Its more like 6/7

Nice try.
He benched HH to start Milton over him and Nico was a program disaster. JA was a gift from the Nico debacle.
