I think that’s best case scenario and hope he is willing to see the upside to that approach. I think it would serve him well

I think Merk transfers out, we bring in a transfer with one year left and plenty of game experience. We have an open competition. I have no idea who wins, there are too many factors. Did GMAC gain weight? How rusty/quick of learner is Faizon? QB 3 is question mark.

What would be crazy is overpay for one year of Sellers. Probably not the smartest but it could make us legitimate championship contenders.

It is. And even if George is here 4 years before going pro, Faizon is starting as a RSJr. I’d point to Ty Simpson as an example of why that’s a great idea. Simpson is likely to a top 5 pick in April. I’ve seen him projected 1 overall.

I like GMAC. I would propose Heupel try to use a 2 QB system. Then you have 2 guys for 3 or 4 years both playing.

JMO a healthy Faizon beats him out by fall camp. He’s coming in Early Enrolle

Merk will probably leave. So who’s the 3rd QB going to be? Will Heupel try to get a veteran in the portal? Or elevate a walkon to scholarship?

True freshmen QBs, even the very talented ones, rarely do well. If Faizon beats out Mac, that’s probably a bad thing.

Not a bad idea. I propose bringing in another 1 year QB from the portal. If it costs you GMac, so be it. Think he probably knows he isn’t ready to take the reins.

Merk does not factor into any scenario in my imagination. He is terrible.

Yeah Merk has looked awful in any mop up duty. I think he probably checked out the moment he knew he wasn’t winning the job. There’s no way he’s as bad as he’s shown. At least I hope for his sake

I don't think he's checked out, I just don't think he was ever a good fit for this offense.

I do remember Heath Shular playing on the freshman team. Of course, he was eligible for varsity as a freshman, but they still had a freshman team that played two or three games that season.

I do recall it well. The drama surrounding Holloway's recruitment added to the interest and because of that Tennessee started the first black QB in the SEC.

Had a copy of the 45 record by Johnny Vol and the Orange Peels for decades and in my final move after retirement, it was broken. Killed me.
