Well, in her third game last night she scored 29 and was very efficient shooting. 9/13 shooting, 7/10 from 3 and 4/4 from the stripe. She looks like a keeper.

A side note on the #5 recruit Jerzy Robinson. I don’t know how many of you have taken the time to watch her actual game footage from last season. She carries a big reputation, as a freshman and sophomore she was more physically developed than most players her age and used her brute strength to muscle her offense. I don’t want to sound too negative on her, she may very well end up at SC, but she has not developed her skills the past 2-3 years. She is a somewhat poor outside shooter and she won’t be able to play PG in college because her handles are pretty bad against any decent defense in high school, let alone college. She certainly isn’t an ideal SG either, looks like a 30% or less type shooter with her stroke.

She is tough as nails, rebounds well and has a fighting spirit, but her early reputation has caused her to remain way overrated as the no.5 player in her class. She turns the ball over a bunch trying to dribble in traffic with her bad handles, does not pass well and except for free throw shooting she is nothing special shooting the ball. Her points now come from free throws and bullying the ball down low against inferior and smaller talent. I could be wrong, but she looks like a project in D1 ball, skills are not sharp at all. She is 6’ and strong, but with bad dribbling/handles and inferior outside shooting she would have to play the 3 spot in college where taller players will block her inside shots frequently as she is almost always off balance and forcing it.

I wish her the best, esp if she becomes a Gamecock, but I’m not seeing it after watching 2-3 hours of her real game film, not her highlights. I’m shocked after watching her film that she is rated this high tbh. I’m not sure she is a top 40 player in this class. On her team USA U15 and U16 teams she was still physically ahead of most and relied on her brute strength. By the time she played on team USA last year she was relegated to 10 min per game and scored her points in mop up duty, mostly from the line. Her skill improvements never kept pace with the girls her age and she was passed over for starting duties or meaningful minutes.

I have been wrong before on HS players (I thought Tessa Johnson’s game wouldn’t translate to D1) and might be wrong again here, but if it was my decision as a HC I would take a pass on this player, esp given the $ likely involved for what I believe will end up being a role type player. By the time they get to college it’s hard to change their shot, and her defense isn’t anything to hang your hat on either, doubly so if she has to play the 3 which she likely will. Big project for a D1 team at the higher levels, she has been allowed to play undisciplined in HS and never worked the skills necessary for big time ball. I suspect her time playing for Team USA has run its course as well, in any meaningful way at least. Hard pass here fwiw.

Watch this AAU style game of All Star type players played recently, you tell me if Jerzy is the #5 player in her class….there were a dozen players in that game alone better than her which includes 2027 players.She is living off of the fumes of her earlier glory days and the media still can’t let it go.
