Just his first year playing football...primarily a basketball recruit that appears to be turning some heads as senior film begins to come out. He's 6'8 280 with a 7'4 wing span.

Expected to be here this weekend for New Mexico State.

Oklahoma offered last week as well.
would rather get a portholer

Not sure a portal OL is going to be a need or worth the investment barring multiple surprise transfers.

You could possibly bring back your entire starting OL (Lance Heard is not showing up on many draft boards) and at worst case 4 of 5 starters. Still have depth guys like Umarov, Satterwhite and Bennett Warren as well as this freshman class coming in.

My only hope is that this isn't an indicator of how we feel about our odds with Micah Smith but more of a player you take a flier on with the expanded roster.

I think we are past the stage of wasting roster spots on projects
Literally none of the projects period have turned out.
Jamie’s Heard, Emmanuel Okoye, The Florida lineman recruited by Pruitt by has now been under Heupel for 5 years.

And at this point in year 5, Jesse Perry and David Sanders are really the only two recruited olineman to make an Impact.
Sham as well. It’s year 5. They should know by now who’s going to make it or not.

Max Anderson?
Bennett Warren?
Satterwhite?
And all the other recruited HS olineman are just taking up space.

Why would you even come to Tennessee unless you’re a 5 star olineman?

He's projected as a likely early to mid second rounder right now. I wouldn't expect him back.
I personally think he's gone as well but I've seen him projected all over the place.

PFF did a full 7 round mock draft earlier this week and didn't have him in it at all (which is crazy). Mel Kiper doesn't have him in his top 10 tackle prospects.

Other sites such as WalterFootball and NFLDraftBuzz don't have him in their top 10 positional rankings either.

I think we are fine at tackle if he leaves but if he were to get feedback he's not a day 1 or 2 pick it at least could open the door for a return.

Two things
I noticed he is taller than most everyone else seen in video. Big guy
I also thought he showed really good foot work for such a tall guy. I expect that is a product of basketball.

Name the last freaky athletic kid who is new to football and has all the physical traits in the world that has played a meaningful snap for us. And, go...

Enough with these projects. Recruit football players. To be fair, I'm not wild about the Euro-TE we just took, either.

Things might have changed but AP said before the season that this would be Lance's last season in knoxville one way or another. I'd guess we gave him a 2 year contract and he wasn't living up to the billing at the time so NIL for another season seemed unlikely. He's definitely improved though so who knows

yup. its literally all or nothing.

slightest bit of bad news, might as well not recruit anyone any more.
slightest bit of good news, we are going to land a Top 5 class!!!!!!!!!

Jesse Perry was a project.
Exactly, an athletic big kid from a tiny school that never pass blocked and he is a starter year 2. If we have the room then why not take a chance on a huge athletic kid. If we hold on to everyone we have, except for Heard leaving and I think Satterwhite portals, then have have the depth to take a project with massive upside.

Smith is a guard. One wouldn’t have anything to do with the other

A lot can change before the season and after the season. APs comment was projecting Heard to the pros. Not sure Heard has done enough to declare
