That’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read. Georgia has been a great job for a LONG time. Don’t confuse a run of bad hires for the quality of the job.

Yes the hype was scripted! Brilliant plan. Fans are not allowed on the ramp at an airport to meet people at a private jet, trust me, that’s me, I’m in the aviation industry. The drunk lady kissing him was planned. Everything that they did was planned to grab attention.

I was at a meeting with a guy that works for al.com and he was the guy that made the rat poison answer famous by asking the question. He 💯 said that Saban came to press conference with a script to grab media attention. Nothing was real but it worked.

Ive always said Danny needs to lock him down, otherwise another SEC team will snatch him up. That said, I think Oklahoma or USC would be the job to get him. Not LSU.

Ohio state, Bama, UGA, LSU, Texas, USC, Oregon, and I think Notre Dame were his top coaching destinations.

Thoughts?


Edit- I listened to the interview again. Phillips said he’s heard Heup would entertain leaving TN and definitely listen to LSU. Plus, LSU admin is confident Heup would leave TN for LSU if offered the job. The outside noise by the minority of our fan base is annoying as apparently Heup hears the 💩. Could you imagine him leaving for LSU and taking Brandon Faizon w/ him?

If he leaves it will suck. But go get Lane, Saban or Gruden and we won’t see a drop off. And if no one wanted it. Get Golesh

Yeah, I think Georgia has the 4th most wins in the nation since the founding of the SEC. It's definitely a great job ever since integration.

In the latest era of college football, and the business it started becoming, I think Tenn has been to 2 SEC championships games, losing both. No championships of any kind.
Ala, Ga, Fl, and LSU are the standard bearers. Even Aub won. LSU won with an idiot as a coach, and Aub won with a coach in over his head. You really think Tenn is an elite destination?

It's a top ten destination. Even with Auburn winning a natty and playing for another, the Tennessee job is still much better. Is it elite? If you consider too ten elite, then yes.

I would probably spin this a different way...if you have a good support system around you, LSU would be an "easy" place to win a championship (in theory).

My take has been, "it's so easy to win at LSU, three coaches in a row won the NC and two of them were idiots."

Of course the NIL has changed things, so a coach today would need to feel secure in how LSU will handle the NIL budget.

I heard an interview with Saban many years ago that he and his agent had targeted the LSU job long before he got there based off a geographical study of where NFL players and highly ranked high school.pkayera came from.

Im paraphrasing because it was a long time ago but he said there was an astonishing number of talented players within a "reasonable" radius of LSU.

This is probably an oversimplification of the situation, but if it comes down to a simple yes/no analysis- which program is more likely to win a NC in the next decade, LSU or UT? I'd best most unbiased analysts would pick LSU.

Putting aside my love for the Orange and doing an honest assessment....Being that UT can't even win the SEC in a nearly 3 decade span, I'd have to pick LSU as my answer.

Plus, JH would get a clock reset...he's half a decade into his tenure at UT. How many more years will UT give him withoit even a conference championship? 3? 5?

I have no idea if he's a legit candidate, but if I'm him, it's 100% a meeting Id take if they call.

If Heup were to hit the door, my first two calls are to Kiffin and Golesh. Now that Kiffin and Layla are back together, I don’t know that she would be all that jazzed about coming back to Knoxville. I see Kiffin going to FLA or LSU before coming back here. I think you also kick the tires on Chesney at JMU and some of these FCS coaches at the Montana and Dakota schools. They play some damn good football up there.

Some of y'all need to leave your homogenous little "safe" places more and experience other things. There is a lot more good food out there than BBQ and meat n threes.
