Heupel’s Handling of Major Injuries

What is gained by stringing along the story about players with major injuries like Jerrod McCoy and Ricky Gibson III suggesting week after week they might come back this season? If Heupel is saying this publicly that’s what he’s telling the team too. Seems to me that isn’t good for team cohesiveness any way you cut it.

Just say out indefinitely, most likely for the season and call it a day. If it’s gamesmanship, I’m sorry - I see absolutely no benefit.
Heupel doesn’t owe us any information or explanation

I could be wrong, but I thought that it was announced that Gibson would be out the rest of the season shortly after he sustained his injury. Also, there were reports that McCoy was making progress and would likely return, but he had setbacks. I’m not sure why they haven’t officially ruled him out for the rest of the season.

It was. People can be told 1000x that Gibson is out for the season, then kept asking when he’ll come back. Apparently, it’s Heupel’s fault.

He’s not suggesting that Gibson will come back. He hasn’t all season.

He’s saying that McCoy is working to play this season because he is.

Hope this helps.

Im sure that the team knows exactly what the injury is and how long they will be out. In the end they are most likely going to be like family to each other. They will look at each other like brothers or at least i hope thats what its like there. It was like for me while i was playing high school ball.

Hippa is only concerned with medical personnel who have access to that information and to whom they can disclose it. Not for laymen who may have information. Nobody is coming after someone who discusses another individual. Doesn’t mean that someone in supervisory role in someone’s life should pass along information Willy nilly.

Doesn't matter if its injuries or anything else regarding the team, Heuple doesn't give out any real info. He is the best coach I have ever seen at saying a lot of words but saying nothing. He is on the level of politicians.

Not sure I understand. Gibson was announced out for the season shortly after his injury. Mccoy has been identified as "out", in rehab, and trying to work his way back. He has been progressing on his own, and now doing some team reps. I don't see any stringing it on, or misconception. In keeping with HIPAA rules, its been straight on.

Not that we (or I for sure) have any need for his medical info but I THINK the HIPPA stuff may be calming down a bit and being more common sense ...but lots of folks are still cautious... When it first became a major thing my sister-in-law told me she felt like having a soundproof booth constructed in her office to discuss medical issues with patients. I'd guess sports uses it to their advantage as much as possible.

To my way of thinking HIPAA is only a government sanctioned activity to oversee what should be one of the keystones of healthcare which is patient confidentiality. Again, it has nothing to do with the lay person having knowledge of another's health records and revealing that information to another individual. Is your sister a health care professional? If so, then I can understand her angst.

It’s total garbage. The media should take him and the AA coaches to task on this. Sooner than later the AA will be forced to put a stop to this and have real injury reports much like the NFL - too much betting $$$.

The guy makes just south of 10 mill but runs a press conference like a dullard. The money that fans spend on tickets, merch and related items but the return they get is laughable. But AA coaches continue to get away with it so whatever.

There’s a lot more to it these days with privacy laws & players may not wanting certain injuries disclosed. Some thought Gibson might be back if they made the playoffs.

Why do fans care how he handles it? As long as it isnt detrimental to the goal of winning games, does it matter?
