My problem has never been with Matt per se. It’s that we let a franchise cornerstone and hall of famer walk over a stupid extra year on a contract at an already hilariously low price. Real and serious organizations don’t do that.

You are simply basing this off WAR when he was a terrible OF. His defensive numbers dwindled his WAR. He was a 131 and 121 OPS+ those two years. The last two years when he has been a DH his WAR has gone up.

He's put 117 wRC+ at minimum every year since 2018. He's also figured out lefties and mashed them since 2024, which is why his production has gone up. He's been a top 20 hitter this decade. He's left-handed, he gets on base as well as anyone. He gives us something we don't have.
