I never read the story about Butch rolling his ankle celebrating the Hail Mary at UGA, then pretended he was praying, until I saw it in the comments. Sounds right.
Remember when he kneeled on the field trying to emulate the Neyland statue pose after Palardy kicked the game-winner against South Carolina in 2013?

I was such a big fan of his in the beginning. And honestly, I think he actually WAS an effective coach until the pressure got to him. He managed to right the ship mid-2015 (likely due to how much talent he had), then completely collapsed in 2016 after a hot, but very lucky start.

It's also wild to me that he was undefeated against Spurrier and beat him in two pretty incredible ways. One was off of Marquez North's circus catch and the other was due to Josh Dobbs being absolutely elite for a night.

Dobbs helped engineer two of the most epic comebacks that I have ever witnessed (for the good guys). The SC game was epic, so was the hail Dobbs mary

And the dude is still sore at us Tennessee fans. That’s narcissism 101. Fail at your job then blame the previous fan base. He walked away with millions and a free cigar. Smh

What do I remember? I remember that Butch Jones was always too focused on his appearance, to the point of obsession. I've mentioned it before, but the moment he did that little kneel-down during a game at Neyland stadium in an exact mimicry of the General Neyland statue all the alarm bells in the universe went off for me. It was obvious to the point of being obnoxiously so. Like - how do you have time to even think that up, much less do it during a game? What kind of priorities do you have?

But that wasn't the only thing. He never seemed to be composed or in control of his emotions, which is like red flag number one for a coach. That field goal from the 1 foot line against Oklahoma. That albatross hung around his neck his entire time at Tennessee and deservedly so. The little "Yippee Skippee!!" jump when Jennings caught that Hail Mary. Skipping the Vandy presser when they beat his super-duper-team in 2016. Just never seemed to actually be in control of himself or the situation - even though he really really wanted to be. Again, always focused on his appearance before anything else.

There was that preseason article from 2017 I think, maybe in the Athletic or Lindy's or something, where someone talking anonymously said (I'm paraphrasing here) that "Jones has to be the smartest guy in the room. It isn't enough for Butch Jones that Tennessee wins games, they have to win them due to the decisions he makes. It has to be about him, not about anyone else." That always stuck with me.

But not as much as him lighting up cigars with the Bammers after watching Alabama beat his own guys who he had recruited and coached for years. That was truly something else. The pettiness of a no-talent ass clown on full display.
