The Atlanta Braves

They need Lopez in the bullpen and no one is taking that contract
Oh I agree. But if he is hell bent on starting, the Braves might not want to deal with the headache.

The contract isn't that bad in relation to the market. Shane Bieber barely pitched in 2024 before getting TJS and he still got 2/26 last winter with the knowledge he would miss most of 2025. I think someone would take it as a pure salary dump. There isn't much risk.

I think we can safely say we know exactly who Mike Harris Jr is

a pretty significant disappointment.
The "I can't believe Mike took that lowball contract" crowd has been pretty quiet.

He walks once every 25 PAs. Not that the point of an AB is to walk, but what that says about his approach...yikes.

“Yeah man hope I can find a reliever for $7M for a guy who put up a 144 ERA+ and 3.61 FIP the last 2.5 years and another reliever for $5.5M with a 2.74 FIP in 25 innings after the pitching coach worked on his repertoire. I need a lot of relievers!”

I think he spent $2m buying them out as well

Saying “we need a lot of relievers” after declining two team options on two solid relievers for you last year for a combined $12.5M is so hilarious
Kinley is not good, despite his performance in Atlanta (which was almost entirely a mirage). I liked Pierce Johnson. Thougtht he was worth the money to bring back. But he did struggle a good bit down the stretch. It'll be interesting to see if he gets anymore than the 7 million he was due.

We need five better relievers than him. He would be "currently" our third best reliever behind Lee and Bummer. And I'm not sure he's equal to Bummer.

He's definitely better than Bummer, imo. But unfortunately we're stuck with Bummer. Again, I wanted to keep Pierce.

Holmes will figure into the pen as long as he is healthy. He's already throwing, so that's encouraging that he'll be ready for ST.

And for better or worse, Wentz seems likely to be given a shot in the pen since we haven't DFA'd him yet and he has no options remaining. He pitched admirably for us last year as a SP, so hopefully whatever adjustments we helped him make can translate well to the BP.
