The Official Detroit Pistons Thread

I think he'll he definitely get votes (3rd-5th), but it's tough at the top. Jokic has to be the favorite again IMO ( I haven't looked at the odds).
Yeah, Jokic and Shai are going to have great records and their stats are incredible with Shai being a 2-way player.

Then you got Luka and Giannis who are also on solid teams and also put up ungodly stats.

Then you got Cade's youth and market going against him as a tie-breaker. If he has the exact same season as Luka, they're giving it to Luka because he's in LAL and his total career is more MVP worthy.

Agree, but CC should be Top 5, if he continues playing this well, improves his FG% and the Pistons keep winning.

Btw, @YankeeVol , do you consider CC a superstar, now ?

I’d say he is at right on the cusp. If he keeps this up I’d say he will get there. He needs to be 1st or 2nd team All-NBA (which he almost made 2nd last year) team IMO.

Are y’all buying the Pistons as East contenders?

I don't think they can win the East. I think Cleveland and New York are a tier above them.

I absolutely believe with the right matchup/injury situation they can make the conference finals.

Hard to believe that just 18 months ago the Pistons ended the season 14-68.
It took five years straight of finishing at the bottom of their division. That’s not tanking… that’s fricking a suicidal deep dive. Tobias is still there?

Pistons with the 1 seed and Cade's not even hitting his shots. That's scary. We talked about Cade and Ivy needing to level up to carry them to success this year, and Cade's play-making has been great, but Duren has become a mad man. Stocks are at a career high and an incredible 24 and 14.9 rp36.

He's shooting an unreal 70% TS, he's hitting over 80% of his FT's. He looks so much more decisive on defense. Him and Stewart might be the best C combo in the league outside of Denver/San Antonio.

@n_huffhines if you're Detroit, would you make a big swing at a guy like Markkanen or would you look and improve around the margins and give this core a chance in the postseason?

I haven't watched them enough to have a great answer, but the Markannen swing does make sense in light of the fact that the east is down this year. How much do you have to give up?

As a top seed this year, you guys are a little ahead of schedule and generally I don't think that's the right time* to make a big move. But if there are another couple big injuries in the east, Markannen's gonna become more tempting.

*plenty of examples, but take my Suns...outside of CP3, the core was way ahead of schedule and we went all in bc of CP3, grabbed a better player than Markannen, and it ruined us.

Ivey and Harris' expiring contract (and maybe Holland) are the biggest assets I would put on the table. Plus, Detroit has control of all their first-round picks. Duncan also only is guaranteed $2M next year so his contract could be thrown in, but he's actually been so valuable to start the year.

It's too many guys. One big injury becomes a killer. I think the right move for the Suns was bringing in CP3 on a bargain. Not going all in on some borderline all star. Find a big time playoff vet on a bargain who fits and will provide the leadership you need.
