Tell me what the advantages are...
Monetarily it takes a premium to go over what they currently can offer in the college game plus he has tried the pro games before and ...so ...I see nothing

He gets to be even a bigger media darling in NYC

NFL gig, no recruiting
$$$
With the Jets probably going to be ass for several more years he's the king of NY
If Lane does that it will look like him bailing on another team after rebuilding his reputation after leaving UT. I doubt he does it, but I do think what we will see is Florida put pressure on him to announce something prior to ESD either way. They don't expect him to say yes, but they'll save more face that way.The other one that jumped out of me is that Lane is going to have to stay with the Rebels at least through the first round of playoffs. Third weekend of December. LSU and Florida are not gonna wait until then to name a HC. A coach bailing on a playoff team would be ooooooogggggllllllllllyyyyyyy press Lane cannot afford anymore.
Works out just fine for an NFL gig that can be named after the first weekend of January.

Here's the other thing: the coaches who are having success currently in the new environment are successful because they are being given the resources to win. Why would anyone leave that for a place where the resources have been mentioned so often in the past as an impediment to winning at the level fans expect? Dan Mullen won as much as you can win at Florida given the resources available and they fired him instead of giving him the additional resources he asked them for. And he says Billy was given some of that stuff and it still isn't enough. I don't know how many will agree with him but I get the impression Dan Mullen thinks he has better resources where he's at than Florida. All those shiny new athletic facilities on campus in Vegas suggest he's right. That's just it. The fact that the Rebels are going to the playoffs unless they really screw the pooch and the calendar make it difficult to leave for another college gig.
He bolted leaving OM high and dry for the playoffs it would destroy his reputation again as you highlight-which would impact recruiting at his new gig. Basically he can't say anything until Ole Miss is eliminated.
Lane is kind of trapped and I think he knows it so he is having a bit of fun.
