Difficult to do objectively.

Bama was always notorious for receiving penalties late, when the game was already decided. The allegation/perception was that it was a “padding” exercise to make the numbers look equitable.

Maybe someone could look at the portion of penalties/yards Bama received after some sort of in-game win predictive index was greater than X%?

Idk, but I’m sure as hell not gonna do it 😅
Just quoting you for the topic, not your post specifically.

The main problem with this theory is that what is considered an "impactful" penalty only gets decided after the penalty is called.

We get called (rightfully) for OPI, the game gets out of hand, and tinfoil gang looks back on it and says the fix was in.

Bama gets called for the same penalty, makes a play, picks up a first down, and the tin foil gang says it was a meaningless call that was just made to cover their tracks. A meaningless call by refs that can barely keep the rules straight in their head when Bama isn't playing, but are somehow so competent they can fix the games while hiding all statistical evidence while Bama is playing.

That's because. #22 ranked Michigan State defeated a Higher ranked Arkansas team and moved up 4 or 5 spots and #25 North Carolina beat a higher ranked Kansas team and moved up 5 or 6 spots. There's always a good reason if you take time to look at results over the weekend...
