Minneapolis to allow Muslim prayer call broadcasts at all hours

up to 5 minutes 5 times a day, including pre dawn and night time every day,,screw that..and no one here would accept that nuisance.
I live within earshot of the interstate. doesn't bother me.

I have lived within earshot of railroads before, didn't bother me.

plenty of people live within earshot of churches that ring bells.

well good for you..I would expect most would be annoyed.

There are aleady noise ordinances.
which generally allow religious exceptions.

you guys act like these calls to prayers are shaking windows, or setting off car alarms. The only time I have experienced one it was audible, but hardly disruptive.

I don't think church bells ring everyday, 5 times per day for 5 mins..... one is not the same here.

No where near as loud as the call to prayer....

With that said, again they are not 5 times a day 5 minutes a day everyday loud.
So you've been there and heard it? What's the dB reading at 100 yards or is it not uniform? Anything electronically amplified can obviously be volume controlled so it may relatively loud, quiet or in between. Church bells are usually pretty loud.

Umm yes I have heard them, have you or you just doing your whataboutism?

Regardless of what you are trying to do here, church bells do not ring 5 times a day for 5 minutes every single day..... is it that hard?

If church bells annoy you i can't imagine how bad you would be annoyed if they went off 5 times a day for 5 mins a day every single day.

What is my whataboutism and how would whataboutism factor into this conversation? Comparison of different calls to worship isn't whataboutism if we're concerned with whether one or both are a nuisance.
If I'd been there and heard them then I wouldn't have asked how loud they are.

What I'm trying to do is carry on a somewhat civil conversation. Maybe I asked the wrong person a question.
How loud the calls are and how far the sound travels at an appreciable volume would help us understand whether the calls are a real nuisance to area residents.

Unless one or both are really loud then probably neither would annoy me.

Isn't that whaboutism?

If you've never heard the call to prayer, which I highly doubt you haven't heard it by now, I suggest you go YouTube it.

No, I don't carry a sound meter so therefore I can't say what the DB's are however that info is out there if that is your defining factor for your point of view.

No, it's not whatboutism because there is definitely a difference between church bells on Sun & Wed vs the call to prayer every single day 5 times a day for 5 mins....

I've heard it in different places at different volumes, but not in MSP. In some places it wouldn't be considered annoying while in others it would. Whether it's a nuisance in Minneapolis would depend on how it's broadcast, hence the questions.

Well, what were the dB's when you heard it, from about 100 yds etc. was it in uniform or? Did it last for 5 mins or was it just 4 mins 58 secs or so?

Go back to your fingerpainting.
I can't ask questions only you can? You implied you had not heard it, asking about the dB's etc but when asked yourself it's "whoa hold on here, go back to fingerpainting"??

I did some searching.

NYC allows 10dBs above ambient noise. which would make it audible to most passerbys within a couple hundred feet, probably less in NYC. audible meaning noticeable, not shattering ear drums.

the highest result I could find is 70dB during the day, and 60 when the sun isn't up. 70db is the noise level inside a car traveling at 60mph. 60dB you would be able to have a conversation at normal levels and still be audible against.

I wouldn't want this in my neighborhood 5 times a day for 5 mins everyday
