Interesting take.UTM was 10-10 in the OVC last year and 2 of their top 3 scorers transferred. They have six freshmen (at least one redshirt) and 4 are 6' or taller. Former LV Destinee Wells is also on the roster.
Coach Kim seems to be emphasizing getting to the rim as opposed to taking an open 3 early in the possession. This is a change from her pre-season approach last year and may reflect her experience in the SEC schedule last year when open threes were hard to come by if a team couldn't generate a legitimate threat to penetrate. However, if what we see is more five players standing outside and passing it around the top of the key, then this will result in slowing the game down (especially as compared to pre-season last year), thus letting the other team rest. Also, when we go to the rim and get fouled, that let's the other team rest. And, of course, when we foul (which we've been doing a lot), the other team rests and the game slows down.
So, if we were taking the first good shot, 3 or otherwise, like last year, I think we might run a young, big team into the ground and put up 120 or so. But, since I think we may even slow it down more than before, and maybe even tighten up trying to do that, I'm going to go lower on the LV's, but also lower on the Skyhawks because of their youth.
LV’s win 99-39
