The "Official" #18 Tennessee vs. Northern Kentucky Game Thread, 3:00 PM ET, SEC Network+

Well, he is a true freshman, and we know what this league is like. It chews on freshmen and spits 'em out. Hope he is all that he's hyped to be.

Come on Cav - Ament is a stud that everyone wanted. He is far from trash - don’t be obtuse.

I’m about ready to start the Boswell bandwagon if anyone else wants to disavow previous comments and come aboard with me. If he keeps shooting, I think he keeps starting.
I was completely wrong about Boswell. Nice to see him knock down a couple of 3's today. He is playing solid and it's obvious now why Barnes is starting him.

Considering he'll improve and get stronger as the season progresses I think I'll take my chances on his talent. Plenty of freshmen for vols have had recent successful seasons including Chandler, ZZ, Keon, Springer just to name a few

Curious what you guys are seeing with Burg. Like the guy's story, but, man, he doesn't seem to have the athleticism to play at this level.

Really surprised…he even hit a couple of shots…Right now, I think he and Burg are your guys in the backcourt with Gillespie. Thought Henderson showed some promise..Didn’t see much from Abram to be encouraged about…

I've liked burg so far. Boswell needs to be more aggressive on offense. It's nice that his shot is falling right now, but I'd like to see him attack the basket.

Abram is confusing to me. He looks like a good athlete, he's had some good defensive reps so far. He's just be AWOL on offense.

It looks like his job to lose. I think Barnes has probably been seeing things in practice that we are finally seeing in games. Perhaps Baswell was feeling the pressure of being a local guy, but I think he has been locked for these last two games.

He has certainly improved since last year, and I no longer get tense when he dribbles and passes, like I did last year.

I will go ahead and say it, he will be the surprise of the year, and will fit in the Mashack and/or Gainey role from last year.

I think we'll, eventually, come to a starting lineup of this (in my decidedly non-expert opinion):

- Gillespie
- Boswell
- Ament
- Brown
- Estrella

Phillips is best used as a high motor 6th man.. Then we'll have Henderson, Burg, Okpara and Okpara getting significant minutes. Carey is the new Charles Hathaway without the energy and Abram isn't good enough for this level. This is a great freshman class, though. Brown and Henderson are starters next season. I even really like Evans and Massamba for the future.

This year, though, a nine man rotation with Estrella starting over Okpara because he's much better offensively. Boswell starts because Barnes values his defense and he can hit a few shots a game. Brown is the best PF on the team. Not a bad team, tourney team. I'm still concerned on the guard production and a lack of scoring at the off guard makes it much harder for a smallish Gillespie. I said 18-12 after the Mercer game and I'm not sure I'm too off, but I think I should've accounted for Barnes winning a few games with experienced coaching. So, I'm going to revise to a (31 game schedule) 20-11.
I was agreeing with everything until you got to the end. With so many new guys, it's hard to judge, but I see us being similar to recent teams, and possibly better by tourney time. I'm seeing 25 - 6.

We are going to out-talent a lot of teams, and out-number others. Depth should be a major strength, especially underneath. We have lots of fouls to give.

I agree that Carey and Abram are going to need to show a lot more, or they are going to get left behind. Whether Brown is a starter or not, he is going to play a lot.

I got to take my seven year old to his first game today, and he loved it. We sat in the first row of section 110. Just wanted to say thank you to the actual owner of those seats, because we got them at a steal on Ticketmaster, and it made it possible for us to sit in seats that I usually can’t afford. I know it wasn’t a big game, but the tickets probably could’ve sold for more. I just really appreciate the opportunity.
