Honest question-why would Fisch even consider a move from Washington to UCLA?

Huskies are at least somewhat serious about football. UCLA is simply not.

If anything that is a huge downgrade.

I mean unless he has some serious ties to the LA area and wants badly to be back there or they are going to pay him enough in the 3 years before he gets fired that he will never have to work again?
Saw an article that said his family doesn't like living in Seattle. In fact apparently his wife is living in Phoenix and never moved to Seattle.

It seems like many of the top head coach candidates are staying with their current teams. How many fans of these schools will feel satisfied with their new hires? I checked out the betting odds for these open positions, and here are the favorites according to BetOnline.

Auburn - Jon Sumrall
Florida - Lane Kiffin
LSU - Joe Brady
Arkansas - James Franklin
Oklahoma State - Zac Robinson
Penn State - Brian Hartline
UCLA - Jedd Fisch
Virginia Tech - James Franklin

I wouldn't lose sleep over any of these coaches.

I am so glad we have CJH and don't have to worry about this

Shawn Elliot's family stayed in Columbia, SC the entire 7 years he was the HC at Georgia State.

It seems to me that a great hire for someone would be Matt Patricia. tOSU defense is spectacular. It's not just their talent, the schemes are genius. After they shut down the playoff teams this season, I think his name will emerge as a top candidate. Wouldn't want to see him at UF or AU. PSU would be a good spot for him.

Must be nice to be able to dictate where you want to live when you are getting paid an absurd amount of money lol.

i really went into the wrong kind of work.

People gloss over or underestimate his family ties to UF and the state of Florida. From Monte’s roots in Tampa, to Layla’s deep ties to UF. No idea what happens but Lane is choice #1 for most Florida fans, with Lincoln Riley gaining a lot of steam mainly because he hates everything about LA, USC and their conference.

Beyond those two you get into the Drink/Fisch tier.
The problem is that university is an absolute nightmare. Their boosters and NIL situation is a mess. Facilities are not great relative to the rest of the conference. Every coach minus Spurrier was ready to commit suicide after three or four years. It would be an awful career move for him. However, awful career moves are kind of his trademark. He seems to have grown up a bit, though, so maybe he’ll stay out.

If I'm James Franklin and sitting on $50M in my mid 50s, I go back to the pros as a position coach and leave the stress of the NIL/portal nightmare and 24/7 college coach lifestyle.

Watch your kids finish growing up, stay in football with a sane work-life balance, and count your blessings.

There are a lot of coaches that have family that doesn't live in the twon where they coach.

The grind of the season is such that they see little of the family anyway.

Interesting, I’m not familiar with all the names but the one that jumps out at me is Lane. To me, he’d be wise to stay at Ole Miss, he’s got it made with a lot lower expectations than FL. The buyouts these schools are paying to fire their coaches is insane.

If he is really talking and consulting with Nick Saban as the rumors say he is, he ain’t leaving. Especially if they finish 11-1 and are hosting a playoff game.

Lane can singlehandedly tank Florida and LSU and Auburn by stringing them along late into December waiting for him only to stay at Ole Miss and force them into panic hires.

While Lane is the most sought after coach this cycle, the luckiest one might be Jimbo Fisher if he’s really wanting to get back into coaching.

I refuse to believe Auburn and LSU are gonna panic hire the Sumrall or Stein types and risk more fan outrage. A comfortable and stable hire with credentials like Jimbo seems crazy but would be better.

Probably not, but if Heupel does jump, I'd bet the farm he tries to get this job again. The question would be if White would hire him. If he thought Vitello was a live wire/rogue, Kiffy would drive him nuts. Oil and water those two.

If Ole Miss makes the playoff, gonna be hard to wait until January for anyone to keep their job open on a chance to interview and land Lane. But it Heupel does leave, I’d simply use his buyout money (he would owe $6-8m depending on the date) and tell Lane, here is a lump sum to cover your buyout with the Ole Miss collective and a signing bonus.

With that said, I don’t think Lane leaves Ole Miss unless they just get blown out in the first round of the playoff. It would still show they have a ways to go and would be a home playoff game.

I’ve put some energy in a potential Lincoln Riley hire, but the chances of that are slim. I’m not even sure UF is vetting him. I do know they are vetting and targeting Lane Kiffin and he is choice #1, and it will be a very public faceplant if Lane turns them down.

I mean I fully understand the desperate take every dollar we have left and beg Kiffin to come approach, I just dont see how it works. Maybe a younger Kiffin but not now. Taking ol piss from a bottom dweller to a top 10 team, they will give him anything he wants - without the pressure of being at Florida. If he goes 8-4 for the next 2-3 years in the grove, his seat wont even be room temperature. I think Kiffin of all people would know not to mess up a good thing by now.

I think the most overlooked part of his current chapter is how important his family is.

Apparently, Knox is about to be the starting QB at Oxford HS his last two years. He’s take over this year for the last few games and playoffs due to an injury

Something tells me that he isn’t gonna uproot his son’s chance at a stable high school career and what appears to be a college football career at some level.

A to Z sports had a very interesting article about UT football. Article stated that Heupel has been calling the plays from the sideline for the last two years.
Concerns about Heupel's trying to do to much and that is where the poor time management is coming from. When Golesh was here, he had 2 more plays called before the ball was snapped.
Heupel trusted Golesh's play calling. It would look like JH does not trust Halzle for some reason. If he doesn't trust Halzle, then why are we paying the guy? Maybe JH needs to let
Halzle do his job and take some of the game play decisions off Heupel. Maybe Golesh was behind a lot of Heupel's success?

Because he has to have an OC and he can’t go outside the family to hire an OC who wants to come in and be an observer only.

Easier to promote his merry bunch of analysts to the OC role and not change the playcalling system.
