Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Just throwing this out. I want championships. I'm happy with 8 or 9 wins. The difference is simply that I won't let my desire for a championship spoil things when it doesn't happen. When I was young, I remember feeling like the season was over and wasted as soon as we lost a game. That's miserable and unsustainable. Those of you who think anything less than a championship is failure will eventually get burnt out, or will temper your expectations and learn to enjoy less than perfection.

Mine is as well. There seems to be a perception that if someone thinks this, they don’t appreciate where we are versus where we have been. I don’t really understand that logic.
For some reason because @InVOLuntary may think CJH has reached his ceiling, then he wants CJH fired... according to some of the fans...

Crazy Narrative.

No, a straw man argument is when you dismiss facts. The facts are we haven't beat a ranked team in 5 consecutive tries. The facts states that we struggled against every SEC team, not named KY. Even allowed them to score way above their season average. I thought you guys loved statistics. You know last season when I was complaining about Banks and y'all were spouting all these stats? Now I use stats and I'm "cherry picking". Which is it? 😅
Last year the stats indicated that the defense let up less points year over year under Banks. Def not the case this year. I give them a partial Mulligan with CB1 and CB2 lost for the year. We beat ugga if we don’t have a true freshman CB for them to pick on early in the season. Now we know we essentially lost Boo for the year. Should we have let him go in the summer? Maybe but we were already thin with exoerience at DB. So losing 3 starting DB’s is almost hard to come back from. Most teams would never stand a chance. The Lions are an outlier.. I only give partial excuse because we lost so much on the back end to the portal and didn’t back fill enough. On the flip side no one could have controlled the Nico situation or prepared for it. What they have accomplished with Joey is miraculous…

Nope - not allowed to state your personal observations on a message board. That would be bad. 😂

OK, I will be bad.

He has reached his current ceiling IMO. He has to change to take the next step. He has not been willing to do so to this point. That happens in every occupation with everybody. I am certain 80+% of the fan base want him to do so. They want the team to make the playoffs. We will know in the offseason when we see if there are any assistant coach changes of note. Doing the same things with the same people produces 9 win seasons on average. The program will remain behind UGA, Bama, Texas, etc, in recruiting until/if they do. The one good year of D in five seasons will become the norm. The inconsistent play calling and half/game end decisions will continue with L's that should have been W's. The lack of respect at the SEC office and with officials will continue.

All of that is on Danny White to make sure happens with the full support of Randy, Donde and the big money backers. If they don't, the program has topped out along with CJH.

You can't just change the definition of a straw man fallacy to fit your narrative. Straw man has nothing to do with "dismissing facts" lmao.

A straw man is misrepresenting your opponents argument to make it easier for you to attack their position.

You built up a straw man by creating this narrative that I, and others, are just okay with 8-9 wins every year and an off chance a playoff berth. That's a fake argument. Nobody said that.

In fact, if you want to have an honest conversation about this I'll tell you what the reality of the situation is.

Most people, myself included, are okay with an occasional 8-9 win season while consistently being in the 10-win category and consistent playoff berths. You're painting it differently. We are okay with this season, not as the "norm" but as an occasional exception (especially considering the circumstances of this season/offseason) due to what we've seen this staff can produce.

Now if it turns into more 8-9 wins than 10+, then we can have that conversation. But in his first 4 years we've had two 10+ and two <10 win seasons. That's counting year 1. We could still hit 10 this year by winning out plus bowl game.

We've yet to have back-2-back sub 10 seasons. So even having this argument that fans are just okay with having 8-9 win seasons every year is soooo disingenuous dude. It's creating a non-existent belief for you to be mad at, and its a scenario that hasn't shown itself to be reality.

@InVOLuntary I just want to say, I do like you and we agree on most things. I just disagree with your conclusion that he's hit his ceiling so young in his career. Then with the logic/argument you're making against fans who disagree with that take is by misrepresenting what they're saying.

You can have the opinion he's hit his ceiling while also not painting the rest of us as dumb or "not wanting winning enough" for disagreeing.

We're rooting for the same team on Saturdays, that's what matters though.

Let creation steady your steps today. The rustle of trees, the rhythm of water, the quiet chorus of morning — each carries a reminder that God still speaks in gentle patterns. This is a day to let shared moments and simple connections draw you closer to Him. Notice the way conversations lift your spirit, how shared faith sharpens your sense of direction, and how community becomes a shelter to your soul. Let nature teach you stillness, and let fellowship teach you strength.

Psalm 19:1–2
The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
and night unto night reveals knowledge.

Think the argument of Heupel ceiling is based on recency bias. This team isnt very talented, esp on back end on defense. How that happened, no idea.

Another factor that gets lost in noise, is .739 winning pctge. Plug all that in.

One factor we arent including, is modifications to his offense. Willingness to modify, or adapt. Teams had schemed his offense. People are down on him, bc of the defense. Yes that's his hat to wear, also.

But, if you've been out in the dark, cold weather for 15 years (cold ass syndrome) it gives you a massive appreciation, and understanding for right here right now.

Before I rant about my point. Let's not forget that 5 years ago, we werent even competitive with:

1. UGA
2. Florduh
3. Bammer
4. Oklahoma

Now we have a shot at beating them, on the reg.

This is a crucial finale for Heup. I think it's gonna be a tough slog. People are talking 9-3, lol. I think that would be very impressive with this team. 7-5 is going to be hard to justify.

This program, the amount of resources, a preferable schedule, top offense. Never going to be easier. So, I get where people are coming from.

One other thing to consider is that Head Coaching situations right now, arent sustainable. Demand far out weighs supply. Programs are throwing around obscene amounts of money, like single use plastics, for what? 10 wins, 11 wins and a shot at the playoffs?

Ive said this 1000 times, and Ill say it again. Of we dont appreciate where we were, and where we are NOW. Another program will gladly take Josh Heuepel, and his top offense off our hands. Stadium is full, bellies are full, coffers arw full. I dunno what people need to do other than enjoy this for what it is.

it is always more difficult to take the step to elite, than it is to slide back into oblivion.

I dont want to go back there.
