Cue @InVOLuntary firing Kim because her team failed to score 100 points.Lady Vols beat ETSU 97-47.
So you think the expectations of a first year head coach should be the same as a coach in his 5th year? If so we have an extremely different view of the progression a coach should be.I'll answer that after I say this - it has nothing to do with how much leeway is deserving and when. It's a cherry-picked stat made to look like things are bad when they aren't, or insinuate things won't get better or can't.
Now:
I think a coach deserves the same amount of leeway now as then. I think it's bonkers to run off a successful coach in less than 10 years tbh. It's not like he's having a losing season. It takes more than 3-4 years to get things straight.
We like to talk about what has "ruined" college football. Pre-90s (heck even into the 2000s) most coaches got 5-10 years to establish their program and figure things out. The way fanbases and ADs have handled coaches from 2010 to now is absurd. Yes, stakes are higher, but the extra money and bigger stage doesn't mean that getting things right and turning things around suddenly happens faster. And its stupid to compare a situation like Heupel coming into Tennessee when he did to Les Miles replacing Saban at LSU, Kirby Smart replacing Richt, or Day replacing Urban Meyer (not saying you did - but these shouldn't be expectations we have).
I've already sent the email.Cue @InVOLuntary firing Kim because her team failed to score 100 points.
We keep talking about 'happy with 9 wins.'So you think the expectations of a first year head coach should be the same as a coach in his 5th year? If so we have an extremely different view of the progression a coach should be.
I never said things couldn't get better. I said my confidence that he would gwt to the next level was suffering.
We've agreed that many are happy with 8, 9 wins with the occasional 10 win. They're happy with a playoff birth every 4 or 5 years. With and expanding playoff, that means you don't think the Vol football program is not even in the top 1/3 of conference. I refuse to believe that.
I'd be thrilled with 9 wins this year after how things have transpired. We would have finally beat a ranked team, albeit Vandy. We keep talking about 'happy with 9 wins.'
Ughhh, we still have to beat Florida and a Vandy team, that may be favored.
But yes, many of us would be thrilled, some the Yeti would just be happy not to get his ass whipped at Waffle.
Everything you just said was pure conjecture and projection. None of those things I've said or claimed. Nice try though. That's called a straw man argument. So you think the expectations of a first year head coach should be the same as a coach in his 5th year?
