Not Heupel's Fault!!

Josh and Joey were not the reason Vols lost to Oklahoma.Joey was not given time to find an open receiver because he was getting killed every time, the reason for the interceptions and fumble! The reason we lost the game was the horrible play of the Offensive Line, they were truly horrible!
BS. They are both just as much responsible as everyone else.
The 2 interceptions were horrible passes that should not of happened under any circumstances .
No QB throws for 393 yards when he is “getting killed every time “.

The line had their issues too but not the only ones.
Even if you want to argue here’s my answer.
It’s Heupels team, his offensive line coached by the O line coach he’s kept for 5 years. So yeah it’s his fault.

Of course it’s not CJH fault.

It’s only year 5.

His players.

His scheme.

His recruits.

The job he gets paid millions of dollars for to win games.

He has zero responsibility for the product on the field and it’s completely on the players who are coached by him.

I blame everyone but CJH and anyone who holds him accountable for the garbage on the field is just an entitled fan.

If OC calls long pass Joey is going to throw it long. With twin safeties , underneath throws were open. Quick passes should have been called by the OC. Screens and some draws in passing situations could have helped. Take what the defense is giving you. Offensive calls were head scratchers at times.
Very little to offset their pass rush....Didn't do nothing much to slow them down. Big head scratcher.

What? Aguilar threw for three touchdowns and almost four hundred yards Saturday night. But on a couple of throws, he got too greedy and too aggressive with throwing it downfield when he should have more carefully seen the DBs and Safeties of Oklahoma more clearly and threw the damn ball away.

As far as Heupel is concerned, he made a couple of dumb decisions as well. For one, he should have accepted the penalty that would have been third and twenty-something instead of declining it and taking the fourth down as it would have taken the Sooners out of FG range. He should've known what a weapon and asset their kicker is. And to use a Freshman TE who only played two snaps all game on a trick play on fourth and one? Really. Damn it, we should have used Lewis or Bishop to run it up the middle or had Aguilar try for a QB sneak. Instead, Heupel and the OC call for a trick play that blew up in our face when a simple run up the gut or a QB sneak would've likely sufficed.

So, in closing, yes, Aguilar and Heupel were a part of the reason we lost Saturday night along with Gilbert, again, missing another chip shot FG because he has a difficult time performing under pressure. As far as our OL goes, they were going against a strong, stout Sooner front that is hard to contain. And our defense was doing good for a good part of the game but got worn down late in the game because our offense lost its footing at times.
I would say we don’t ever want to put an opponent in a 3rd and twenty something situation. Doesn’t go very well for us

I am probably one of the biggest CJH fans on this board and know that the HC is always responsible. It doesnt mean he needs to be fired but it does mean he needs to implement changes.

Maybe it is a personell change, maybe a philosphy change, maybe a practice structure change, or maybe something else. I trust that he will do that as soon as feasible. If the same mistakes and issues continue to be a part of the program, then i will be much less of a fan of CJH.

But pretending he isn’t at fault or responsible is not accurate in any way.

Yeah, David Sanders blew it big time.

And definitely don't hold him accountable for assessing the DB and OL coaches recruiting and development. It's been 5 years. It's time to critically assess what we have.

The binary lens, extreme opposite points of view.

You've got it all figured out

It is hilarious to see fans turn on Josh Heupel over losing to Oklahoma.I remember well all those years of Jones,Dooley and cornbread! How soon we forget,I remember those years we couldnt get a good Coach because they wouldnt touch Tennessee with fans turning on them after a couple of losses. It would be good enough for these fans who want Josh fired, that he would leave Tennessee for a better job!!I love Josh Heupel and hope he stays many more years, best Coach we have had since Fulmers best days!!

A flaw that I notice with Heupel is that he doesn't look like the team preps well for their opponents to exploit weakness. It is like they keep the same scheme and play style irregardless of who they play instead of adjusting to match opponent.

OU beat Tennessee the same way UT beat them last year, with a Dline that dictated the game play. Banks hasn't magically forgotten how to coach, he just doesn't have a dominant Dline and 2 lock down corners this year. Makes a huge difference.. This was just last year in reverse..
Banks has had 1 good D in 5 years. I think last year was more about the schedule than the actual D. The 2 best offense's we played last year,Ohio St and GA put 73 combined on us. Ala's offense was trash last year, as was Fla's, Ok,Arky,Miss St and Ky. Our OOC schedule was absolute dog $hit. Last year wasn't so much about an elite D, it was playing horrible offensive teams. Banks is a decent DC at best

They are weak, little and out of shape. Building a national championship begins with a strong, well coached offensive line. You get that, you have a running game.

Heupel is not the ONLY one at fault, but he has been a contributor. He stays aggressive against Georgia late we win. He then fails to manage the clock and psychs out his own kicker. If he calls a time out before the half earlier, we have plenty of time to run it in without being forced to call the passing play vs Alabama. He designs a poor 4th down play call at the end of OK. It’s not all his fault, but he could have made things better with his play calling and clock management. He also is not stepping in an taking ownership of our defensive struggles. He’s the head coach - he’s responsible for defense too. Yes, our players haven’t executed but coaching his had an impact too. I’d says it’s about 50/50.

you ever tried to tackle a 300 pound black man?
If he wraps him around the legs he comes down like any man. No defending his tackling technique. And if you going high and not winning you grab his face mask and bring him down before you let him break away. I don’t care if he is 320 pounds and a green man. I was his sucky technique not some great breakaway. GBO!

Not nearly as much as you, old wise sage of Volnation.

He always has sanctimonious terrible takes. Some of them land with likes which makes him even more rambunctious to post the next one. Rarely an indepth view of the matter. Only a snide counterpunch to criticism to questioning coaching decisions.

In an odd twist, he changes his holier than thou position to the opposite on non sports boards. I could get with both if they weren't extreme in both cases being 100% one sided.

You do realize that Oklahoma runs a ton of cover 3 out of 2 high shells. The two high really isn’t the indicator you think it is
