Here’s the playoff field, for now

First and foremost, this would be the 12-team playoff field if the postseason were to begin tomorrow, starting with the 12th seed: Memphis, Virginia, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas Tech, BYU, Ole Miss, Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, Indiana and Ohio State

Who would have ever thunk it?

Neyland Stadium 102.455 fan capacity
Memphis Stadium 59,000.

Memphis is likely not making the playoffs, but even if they did they won't win anything.

No mid major deserves to be given a free spot

Vandy and Memphis both making the playoffs over Tennessee would be an intriguing scenario. Of course Vandy would have to beat TN head-to-head to get in. Which would mean they are the better team and more deserving.

One thing Vol fans have to realize is Tennessee can not control other teams. Memphis & Vandy can play good football if they elect to& both have. Vanderbilt now has a solid strategy using the portal to maintain a competitive team. They’ll find another experienced QB next year if Pavia leaves & will field a competitive team.

Actually Memphis likely would have won that game had Lewis not been out toward the end. So saying they were destroyed is quite the stretch.
And they would have lost to the WORST team in the SEC had the ARK running back simply held on to the ball with two hands on that last play. It would be fun to see them line up against Georgia.

I mean Memphis isn’t anything special and in no way deserves a playoff spot, but we almost let them come back and win it in Neyland. I think we held them to the same point total as Memphis, which is pretty embarrassing. Arkansas isn’t a team I’d bring up in an effort to make us look good.

Can’t disagree with your sentiments but if they win out they probably deserve it as much as we did last year. They will likely get curb stomped in first round but who else did so last year.

Clearly they have played a comparable schedule

Your desire to take shots at UT is forcing you into making idiotic claims about Memphis St. Get that checked out

Good point there. The other poster was pointing out that Memphis got a bad break against UAB with the QB going out. I was simply pointing out that they got a big break to beat the worst team in the SEC. We took our foot off the pedal against AR and got conservative after building a big lead as we were prone to do in several games.

The point of the thread is about Memphis possibly making the playoffs which is a joke. Their schedule is not in the same universe as any SEC school. Bottom line is that neither UT nor Memphis deserve to be in the playoffs. The Arkansas games for both are good examples of why.

We weren’t an NC caliber team last year, but that kind of thing is going to happen with playoff expansion. NIL might be changing things, but historically there’s rarely more than 4 real contenders. I don’t think anyone was left out that would have made much more of an impact than we did.

Laugh all you want but Vandy has the oldest most experienced team in the SEC & it’s not by accident. They will continue to recruit players with 2-4 years college experience each year along with select HS guys. They are selling “a chance to play your last couple years of college in the SEC, work for a shot at NFL, but at worse, leave with a Vandy degree or start an MBA”. A lot of guys, after 2-3 years in college, see the value in that.

their HC is 8-29 in the SEC....they had one year the schedule aligned and LSU, Mizzou, SC struggled below their expectations and injuries.

Vandy is nothing, their QB is overrated as is their HC...

Tennessee is much better and will continue to be as we will see in few weeks
