Trump Reveals Deal with Drugmakers, Attempt at Lowering Cost of Obesity Drugs

I'm not arguing against anything. This increases the pool of women I'm willing to pursue.

But to act like it doesn't feed into effortless gratification is silly.

It also dramatically improves the results for those already giving significant effort.

You’re complaining for the sake of complaining. Anyone living in reality accepts that many people are unwilling to make the lifestyle changes needed. If we have medications that can improve their life, that’s a good thing. Not a negative.

There truly are some folks that have conditions that cause obesity and they can’t help it. There are some that don’t have the discipline to exercise and push their big butt away from the dinner table. That’s where I have a problem subsidizing their addiction. Sorry if that’s cruel but it’s the truth.

Sure. I oppose any price regulation on principle. But no one should oppose the medication itself

Your definition of life improvement, like mine, is subjective.

I don’t trust these obesity drugs.

The manufacturers don’t list all the side effects.

I tried them.

I lost a couple of inches, but it wasn’t around the waist.

Wouldn't surprise me if in 10 years they say "oops, my bad. We didn't know you would grow a horn out of your forehead like a Rhino."

GLP-1s are exciting new drugs. Lots of potential benefits, but of course, some drawbacks.

One thing is certain about this president....he looks out for people who look like him.

Obesity disproportionately affects black and Hispanic people. Yet somehow Trump is racist for making these drugs more affordable.

People’s unfounded reluctance about this is absurd
Yep. Just like those non-issues of heart trouble, blood clots, strokes or in my case a baffling case of non-alcoholic cirrhosis from those super safe COVID vaccines. Totally absurd to be skeptical.

The FDA approved the first GLP1 20 years ago.

But you keep waiting buddy. I’m sure it’ll just take another decade or two and then people will start growing extra arms, right?

Not at all. I can back it with objective data. Improved blood pressure and A1C for example

You've created a position where working out can be a time waster and took a comment I made that this is a shortcut to weight loss and, as you love to do, turned it into a hill to die on.

You are hereby known as Princess Ozempic. You should spend less time arguing, and more time on cardio.

Complete strawman. I never claimed it was a waste of time and you didn’t simply call it a shortcut. Instead you claimed this gave people an excuse “not to strive for physical fitness”

It’s an absurd statement. I guess we should get rid of all type diabetic medications and all blood pressure medications too. If don’t want these people having excuses.

One more excuse for people to not strive for physical fitness.

“The cost of care is more expensive across the board,” Pickner said, citing the rising use of injectable weight loss drugs and other brand-name medications."

I know some people need it because of life threatening issues from serious obesity and that's great if it helps. but I wonder if some are just taking it to look good in their tennis outfit in the weekends because it's easier than putting in the work to drop weight

It would be cheaper and a lot more effective to just eat less, and almost certainly healthier. It's seemingly impossible to get a BMI over 25 if you eat one meal a day, which is healthier for insulin sensitivity. There's no way I'd take those obesity drugs even if I needed it, because Big Pharma has a motive for side effects so they can sell more medicine to fix the new problem caused by the old medicine. We have the best hiking locales on the whole planet, including the Appalachian Trail, yet we're the fat people. I was up in Canada for a few days and I was surprised that nobody up there was fat. I expected them to be just as fat as Americans. It was like I had gotten into a hot tub time machine and traveled to 1980s America.

increasing the reliance on medications is a temporary positive at best. especially if it doesn't come with a change in lifestyle.
