Question about Neyland this season

I have been to 3 games this season and they do not seem as loud as some of the loudest games I have experienced. OU 2015, BAMA 2022, and BAMA 2024 were much louder.

I do think Neyland fan noise ratchets up and down depending upon UT’s rank, the opponent’s rank, and how well the team is playing. OU 2015 was opening game, UT was ranked in the Top 10, Top 5, and #1 for a week in 2022 and played highly ranked teams. It was LOUD. Bama ‘24 was also a highly ranked team and UT was positioning for a college football playoff. The Vols almost took down Georgia and that game was loud. All-in-all, this year’s schedule has not been the best and UT defensive struggles has taken some of the gas out of the crowd. Imagine what could have happened if one of those two insides kicks had been successful. Loud for third down when it is 3rd and 15 and then OU runs for 16 yards.

I’ve been going to UT games since 1968. The Penn State games, Clemson 1974, Notre Dame 1979, Alabama 1982,Auburn 1985, much of the 1990’s, Florida and Arkansas 98, Florida 2004, California 2006, SC and Georgia 2009, OU 2015, Florida 2016, and many games since CJH has been here were Neyland loud beginning with Ole Miss in 2021.

Sometimes I think Vol fans just look for something to complain about. 2025 is not 2024 or 2022. But 2025 is sold out crowds whereas most of the time between 2007 and Ole Miss 2021 was not. I remember sitting at a game with fewer than 90,000 fans in the stadium during that last Jones year and a couple during the Pruitt years, 2020 notwithstanding, just shaking my head. I’m now confident we have a successful program.

I look forward to a very loud Vandy game when for the first time in a long time Vandy will bring in a good team.

I haven't been to a game this year so I am solely basing this on what I hear on tv. It doesn't sound as loud as it has in the past. That being said... it could be the mics that they are using or not using that make it sound that way. I know the commentators will make comments about how loud the stadium is or that the environment is crazy.

I have read here from plenty of people that have been to games saying its as loud as it always is so I will take their word for it because they are there to actually experience it.
Same. You can usually tell how loud it is on TV. There were times in previous years that you couldn't hardly hear the TV guys talking because the crowd was so loud.

I have season tickets for 5 years so I will speak to those.

My first really loud and sustained neyalnd was Bama 22.

There are 2 components to Neyland intensity.

One is how loud and the second is how long is it sustained.

It is obviously the loudest after major offensive play and the loudest when on defense.

This year it has been loud at times but not loud as Bama 22 or 24.

Nothing has been sustained loud like Bama 22.

Most of the time now it‘s loud for a play and then if the defense doesn’t stop, it’s like the energy leaves stadium and it quiets down for a while. It is kind of like when a group of fans try to start the wave. The fans will get really loud and the defense will let them down and the energy will leave the stadium for a while.

So loud at times but not sustained loud.
This.

I've been going to games regularly since the 90s and this season just hasn't matched the big games in recent years.

IMO, nowhere near as loud this year.

My ears were ringing last year after Bama and Florida. I've had no such experience this year. Also, fwiw the dB reading on the board has been peaking at around 119 maybe touching 125 but consistently between 100 and 115. Last year it was consistently in the 120s and touching 130 a few times. So, the numbers and the ear ringing status checks out.
Well yeah, those are our two biggest rivals. They’re always going to be louder.

I was at the Arkansas game. All of the fans around me were into the game and were loud. With that being said it did begin to wear on us trying to get extra loud on third down when the defense let them convert over and over again.
I was there too, it was ok, I've seen much better

I was at the OU game in 2015 and that's the loudest game I have been to. My ears rang for three days after that game. The quietest game I have ever been to would be the Air Force game when Inky Johnson went down. I will never forget that. You could hear a pin drop.

crowd noise varries greatly depending on your seats. lower bowl, especially tucked under the overhang, the sound is downright painful sometimes. if you sit in the upper deck the sound will never be as loud up there.

OU 2015 was the loudest game in the last 27 years. Hasn't been the same since. The crowd was wild the Whole game!

UGA shouldn't be as loud?

And people have said 2015 Oklahoma was the loudest. First time we had ever played them in Neyland. It should always be "louder". It has not been this year for whatever reason. Poor defense may have something to do with that.

Neyland is plenty loud. You just can’t hear anything after the piped in DJ music at 120 DB’s.

Energetic though? It feels like cracking the whip trying to get everyone around me fired up this year.

Guys: Tune in to Indiana vs Penn State right now. This is how loud it is when 100,000 fans show up ready to help their defense win.

Neyland has been louder than this before, but not in 2025.
