Has Neyland been as loud this season as it’s been in recent years? I haven’t attended a game this season.

We’ve had some notoriously loud environments in recent memory, these games immediately come to mind:

Ole Miss 2021
Bama 2022 & 2024
Florida 2024

I am curious to hear some opinions from those have attended games this season. The vibe on TV doesn’t seem like it has been as rowdy, but TV doesn’t always paint an accurate picture.

I haven't been, I wouldn't know. But you can bet next year I'll be getting loud. Going to a few games.

Florida 24 was not a notably loud game in my opinion. Great environment but not an all timer. Comparable to UGA this year.
Neyland has been basically the same as usual in my opinion but there haven’t been any all timers like 21 Ole Miss, 16 Florida, 15 Oklahoma, 22 Bama

I have a theory that those environments only happen when we are especially wound up for an acute reason. Had too much success recently to be as desperate.

Neyland is loud. One can’t expect the fans to sustain the same volume when the D gives up first downs on 3rd and 4th down. Our d was better fist half vs Oklahoma and the crowd was insane. I couldn’t hear people beside me.

The fans are doing their part regardless if some don’t yell or stand. There were fans sitting down when I was a student early 90’s.

I haven't been to a game this year so I am solely basing this on what I hear on tv. It doesn't sound as loud as it has in the past. That being said... it could be the mics that they are using or not using that make it sound that way. I know the commentators will make comments about how loud the stadium is or that the environment is crazy.

I have read here from plenty of people that have been to games saying its as loud as it always is so I will take their word for it because they are there to actually experience it.

people have to understand loudness comes with good exciting play against top level foes that fans feel like we have a legit chance to lose but also a legit chance to win (no blowouts).

outside of the Georgia game there haven't been that many cases where this is true.

oklahoma is probably a candidate but at that point Tennessee had already lost 2 games and Tennessee played terribly in that game outside of the opening offensive drive.

the bama and Florida games are always going to be the best but those only happen every other year.

ole miss 21 was good but that was due mainly to lane kiffin returning to Knoxville and Tennessee wanting to whoop his @ss.

all the other home games this year have been mundane to terrible opponents. not really worthy of blowing your vocal cords out for.

also playing night games helps and we just haven't done that much at home this year.

I suspect with the lineup of teams coming to Neyland next season (Bama, LSU, Texas, Auburn) you'll see some very raucous loud environments.

IMO, nowhere near as loud this year.

My ears were ringing last year after Bama and Florida. I've had no such experience this year. Also, fwiw the dB reading on the board has been peaking at around 119 maybe touching 125 but consistently between 100 and 115. Last year it was consistently in the 120s and touching 130 a few times. So, the numbers and the ear ringing status checks out.

I never understand the db thing.. 130 db is 100x more sound intensity than 110db

We have the best stadium in the country. I enjoy discussing the atmosphere. Thx for your input.

I was at the Arkansas game. All of the fans around me were into the game and were loud. With that being said it did begin to wear on us trying to get extra loud on third down when the defense let them convert over and over again.
Was there too and felt the same. Did see 117db on my watch but not sure how accurate that is.

It’s lost its edge in my opinion. Is the student section smaller? And also half the seats right behind our bench are empty. Wtf
I noticed all those empty seats also when we were there last month. We were sitting on the opposite side so it was obvious. They were over half empty for the first half, then were pretty full the second half. I said something about it and the guy sitting in front of me said that the people in those seats have access to a club down below. It’s funny, but he specifically mentioned they get all you can eat soft serve ice cream.

One reason it isn't as loud anymore is because a huge portion of the fans are so obsessed with their cell phones that they can't put them away and make noise. They are too focused on staying still to make pictures or whatever they feel they have to constantly look at. Kinda hard to be intensely locked on the game - making noise by clapping and screaming when you can't look away from the phone in your hands for more than two seconds.

I have season tickets for 5 years so I will speak to those.

My first really loud and sustained neyalnd was Bama 22.

There are 2 components to Neyland intensity.

One is how loud and the second is how long is it sustained.

It is obviously the loudest after major offensive play and the loudest when on defense.

This year it has been loud at times but not loud as Bama 22 or 24.

Nothing has been sustained loud like Bama 22.

Most of the time now it‘s loud for a play and then if the defense doesn’t stop, it’s like the energy leaves stadium and it quiets down for a while. It is kind of like when a group of fans try to start the wave. The fans will get really loud and the defense will let them down and the energy will leave the stadium for a while.

So loud at times but not sustained loud.

For what they pay they should also get handies.

I haven't noticed any overall drop in volume, but it's hard to sustain the energy when the D gives up so many 3rd downs, etc. In the "blame game," I would credit "crowd noise" as 0% responsible for our losses.
